Job Summary:

The Alcohol and Drugs Counselor provides professional counseling services to individuals experiencing issues with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. This role is essential in delivering assessment, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, and aftercare planning in accordance with state laws, policies, and clinical standards. The counselor works in a multidisciplinary team to support recovery and wellness outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive substance use assessments and screenings using standardized tools.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients.
  • Provide evidence-based individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational classes related to substance abuse, relapse prevention, coping skills, and healthy living.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations (HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2).
  • Monitor client progress, evaluate effectiveness of interventions, and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  • Coordinate with other service providers, including mental health professionals, case managers, and legal systems when appropriate.
  • Participate in case conferences, treatment team meetings, and ongoing clinical supervision.
  • Educate clients and families about the nature of addiction and available community resources.
  • Maintain professional licensure and complete continuing education as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensure: Must possess or be eligible for licensure in the State of Mississippi as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), Licensed Social Worker (LSW), or other applicable licensure.
  • Experience: At least one year of experience working with substance use disorders preferred.
  • Background Check: Must successfully pass a background check and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of DSM-5 criteria and ASAM placement guidelines.
  • Experience in trauma-informed care and co-occurring disorder treatment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working in residential treatment, outpatient, or correctional settings is a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Work Conditions:

  • Work may involve evening or weekend hours based on client needs.
  • May require travel between service locations or facilities.
  • Potential exposure to emotional situations and behavioral disturbances.

Pay: $17.17 - $20.00 per hour
