Interim Choir Director: Adult Choir (part time)
Job Description
The adult volunteer choir of 15-20 singers is the primary music ensemble of the congregation, leading and supporting congregational singing of hymns and liturgy and providing additional music at the appropriate places in the liturgy (psalm, Gospel acclamation, offering, choral stanzas of hymns, etc.). The adult choir currently sings two or three times monthly (10:30 service) September through May and at festival services (Rally Day, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Easter, but possibly other special services in coordination with the schedules of other music ensembles). This schedule will be modified as necessary in the interim.
Responsibilities of the Director:
● Conduct choir at those services for which the choir is scheduled to sing (two Sundays a month in the interim).
● Prepare for rehearsals (two Wednesday evenings a month in the interim), selecting music appropriate to the specific service/liturgical date (in coordination with the organist/accompanist) and learning the music in advance of the rehearsal.
● Coordinate choral liturgical participation (psalms and acclamations) with organist.
● Conduct rehearsals in a manner that is welcoming and encouraging to volunteer singers while striving for excellence. Rehearsals are currently scheduled on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 P.M. with brief rehearsals approximately 30 minutes before the services at which the choir is singing.
All staff must participate in the Safeguarding God's Children training program or similar boundary program and complete a background check.
Duration of term: September 1 through December 31, 2026, or until the permanent position is filled. May be extended another term upon recommendation of Music Ministry Task Force and approval of church council.
Estimated hours per month: 12
Compensation: $375.00 per month
