Summary
This position is responsible for overseeing the efficient processing of scrap while promoting an accident-free, environmentally compliant workplace. The Yard Supervisor is also responsible for overseeing yard personnel and day-to-day operations, including equipment maintenance, monthly inspections, and safety.
Essential Responsibilities
- Works with site and regional staff, vendor/suppliers, and clients/customers.
- Oversees yard operations, including directing employees.
- Trains and directs department employees in proper use of equipment.
- Orders and purchases parts and equipment.
- Provides training in the areas of safety equipment operations and material identification.
- Performs weekly and monthly inspections of all equipment and machinery.
- Schedules preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Maintains site and equipment maintenance records.
- Responsible for troubleshooting hydraulic problems and directing personnel in repairing equipment.
- Responsible for enforcement of safety regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Supervise and monitor daily sorting, equipment operation, material processing, and packaging activities to ensure compliance with company standards and production requirements.
- Review production schedules and coordinate with management to plan and execute daily shift operations.
- Assign work responsibilities based on production priorities and provide guidance on the safe and efficient operation of equipment.
- Inspect machinery, equipment, and work areas to ensure safe operation and compliance with production and quality standards.
- Monitor production metrics and ensure daily operational goals are achieved.
- Prepare and maintain accurate production, attendance, and timekeeping records.
- Delegate tasks, monitor employee performance, and ensure work is completed according to established schedules.
- Promote and enforce all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, workflow efficiency, and quality.
- Train, coach, and support employees to ensure safe work practices and operational excellence.
- Communicate operational issues, staffing needs, and production updates to management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience
- Must be willing to work in an outdoor environment in all types of weather.
- Must have 3 – 5 years of construction or industrial experience, or related industry.
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in manufacturing, recycling, industrial, or warehouse operations preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot equipment-related issues.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to complete production reports and timekeeping records.
- Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in a construction or industrial setting including but not limited to: torches, cranes, loaders, forklifts, bobcats, shears, balers, and other production-related equipment.
