Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and dependable CDL Driver / Assistant Shop Hand to join our dynamic team. In this dual-role position, you will be responsible for operating commercial trucks to transport freight, including flatbeds and other specialty equipment, across various routes. Additionally, you will assist with shop duties such as vehicle maintenance, cargo handling, and equipment inspections, and equipment maintenance. This role offers an opportunity to combine professional driving with hands-on "shop" work while maintaining safety and compliance with all federal and state regulations. A proactive approach and extreme attention to detail will be required.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate a variety of commercial trucks, including tractor-trailers, flatbeds and following all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards
- Load and unload freight manually occasionally and use equipment such as forklifts or skid steers to assist.
- Assist in shop tasks including vehicle maintenance, welding repairs, mechanical background, vehicle inspections, and minor repairs to keep fleet vehicles in a neat condition.
- Manage cargo handling activities such as securing loads on flatbeds or trucks and ensuring proper load distribution for safety.
- Support delivery operations by loading/unloading materials efficiently and accurately with verification.
- Heavy equipment maintenance and machine operation is strongly encouraged, but not limited to a lumber delivery forklift (Moffet, Donkey, ect).
Qualifications
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record; experience with tractor-trailers preferred.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and delivery driving across OTR routes.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations and USDOT regulations.
- Ability to operate manual transmission trucks confidently with air brakes; experience with manual handling equipment like forklifts is a plus.
- Familiarity with trailers, flatbeds, dump trucks, box trucks, ect.
- Strong understanding of logistics cargo handling procedures for truck loading/unloading and securing loads safely, example: tie downs, ratchet straps, chain binders/boomers.
- Navigation skills using GPS systems; ability to adapt to route changes efficiently
