What are the responsibilities and job description for the MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR position at SIMPSON DOOR COMPANY?
Drives the day to day strategic and tactical direction for the maintenance department. Guide and direct the activities of the maintenance staff engaged in the safe repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment. Strive to continuously improve equipment reliability and maintenance department performance. Promote inter and intra department communications and teamwork. Maintain strict budget disciplines to control costs and improve company profitability.
Interpersonal Contacts: Communicates and interacts with all levels of the organization, union leadership, regulatory officials, vendors, and suppliers, and the community.
Decisions and Key Mental Challenges: Directs correction of a wide variety of mechanical and electrical issues that prevent operations from achieving maximum uptime and safety objectives. Must quickly identify downtime problems and organize corrective actions to minimize lost production and/or poor quality.
Essential functions and responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety compliance of machinery and staff.
- Foster a commitment to all safety initiatives by fully participating in the safety program and fulfilling safety objectives. Comply with safety rules and regulations.
- Comply with all environmental regulations.
- Contribute to the development and management of the annual maintenance and capital project budget.
- Promote general order and cleanliness.
- Consistently promote high standards of fit and finish. Inspects jobs in process and at completion to ensure that standards of workmanship and safety are maintained.
- Perform all related payroll & accounting duties, plan for employee vacation(s).
- Work directly with your maintenance planner/procurement.
- Perform root cause and machine failure analysis.
- Recommend, implement and support Continuous Improvement activities.
- Maintain a robust planned and predictive maintenance (GUARDIAN) schedule and provide effective reliability support.
- Manage & strategically maintain spare parts inventories.
- Select, train and supervise maintenance staff to include mechanical, fabrication, machining, electrical, plc/controls, facilities and other related disciplines. Schedules and plans overtime and time-off for direct reports.
- Develop continuous training to build team skillsets.
- Coordinate the repair and upkeep of buildings and grounds.
- Manage relationships with contractors and service providers to ensure they meet company requirements. Manage relationships with the community as appropriate.
- Assure a work environment that respects the rights of employees where employment activity is conducted in a non-discriminatory manner in keeping with legal requirements and Simpson policies. Investigates employee complaints or concerns and acts promptly to resolve them. Provide a positive atmosphere through open, honest, and consistent application of company policies and procedures.
- Provide emergency on - call support.
- Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in industrial maintenance
- Previous management experience
- Technical capability and understanding of mechanical, electrical and control systems
- Computer proficiency with both software (MS Office Suite, CMMS) and hardware
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrate ability to stay organized and fulfill objectives, complete projects
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience in wood products manufacturing with processes such as sawing, boring, planing, molding, sanding and shaping and the necessary machines and tooling
- Experience with Job Instruction, Ergonomic Analysis, Hazard Identification, and related tasks
- Experience with Project Management or similar tools for maintaining and communicating a project timeline
- Experience moving and locating manufacturing machinery
- Bilingual English and Spanish
This is a safety sensitive position and requires a drug screen that includes testing for THC.
