Reports To: Distribution Center (DC) Manager
Job Summary: The Assistant DC Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing the building and shipping areas of the Distribution Center and making sure all shipments are sent out complete, on time, intact, and on the correct carrier. This involves direct contact, supervision, and management of the employees in this area, as well as interacting with in-house and contracted truck drivers. This person is also responsible for all the maintenance activities within the DC, and works very closely with Wedcor maintenance staff and outside vendors to address maintenance issues. The Assistant DC Manager also completes all the hourly employee valuations, as well as managing the time our hourly workforce spends working different jobs throughout the DC. This person also oversees the safety areas within the warehouse.
Essential Functions
- Direct supervision and management of the building and shipping areas.
- Make sure all shipments are sent out complete, on time, and via the correct carrier.
- Primary point of contact with LTL and Parcel drivers.
- Responsible for all equipment maintenance (forklifts, wrappers, baler, etc.).
- Ensure all forklift drivers are cleaning and maintaining their lifts for proper operation.
- Oversee all safety areas within the two (2) Distribution Center buildings.
- Make sure all aisles are clearly marked for personnel and/or forklifts.
- Complete all employee evaluations for the hourly personnel.
- Manage the time hourly personnel are spending working different jobs throughout the day.
- Training and enforcement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s), and Safety rules and regulations.
- Conduct weekly GMP walk-throughs and monthly Safety walk-through.
- Participate/Lead the Continuous Improvement Process at the DC.
- Keep accurate daily personnel records.
- Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly Sanitation records.
- Maintain daily forklift checklists and weekly Preventive maintenance (PM) logs. Issue work orders to Wedcor Maintenance as necessary and work with Wedcor Maintenance scheduling and outside vendors to address maintenance issues.
- Regularly communicate with DC Manager regarding order status and shortages/exceptions.
- Investigate and resolve scanning issues/errors.
- Identify and reconcile inventory discrepancies by working with the appropriate personnel.
- Direct daily/weekly/monthly cycle counts and monthly inventory.
- Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned (Example: Helping verify, product reorganization & continuous improvement plans).
Qualifications & Skills
- 3 to 5 years of experience in supervisory/management roles in a manufacturing environment. Previous experience in a Distribution Center or Warehouse preferred.
- Knowledgeable and proficient on a computer, including Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to gain a general knowledge of Data and Warehouse Management Systems. ASC and Great Plains system experience preferred.
- Possess the ability to creatively solve problems and perform basic bookkeeping.
- Expected to follow proper instructions.
- Excellent organizational skills. Accurate record keeping and detail orientation is necessary.
- Ability to comply with all safety and department regulations, as well as Federal and State regulations. Be able to identify and correct unsafe practices.
- Excellent attendance – no unexcused absences. Expected to be at work on time.
- Expectation of zero accidents/injuries.
- Properly handle product to minimize damage.
- Able to work with minimal supervision.
- Must perform work with a sense of urgency.
- Able to work under pressure.
