Position Overview
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides supervision, support, and assistance to adults with high-functioning autism in a residential group home setting. Individuals in this home are largely independent and capable of spending time on their own. The DSP’s role is to ensure a safe, supportive, and structured environment while assisting with daily routines, meals, chores, and overall well-being.
This position is ideal for someone who is calm, reliable, observant, and enjoys a low-stress, relationship-based support role.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide general supervision to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of residents
- Support residents with meal preparation, meal planning, and cleanup as needed
- Oversee and encourage completion of daily chores and household responsibilities
- Ensure residents follow their daily routines and schedules
- Promote independence while being available for guidance and support
- Provide companionship and positive social interaction as desired by residents
- Monitor for changes in mood, behavior, or health and report concerns to supervisors
- Maintain a clean, organized, and respectful home environment
- Document daily activities, notes, and required logs accurately and on time
- Follow all company policies, DSPD regulations, and individual support plans
- Communicate professionally with management and other team members
What This Role Is Not
- No physical behaviors
- No toileting or personal care
- No medical care beyond basic oversight
- No constant 1:1 staffing requirements
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to pass background checks and required clearances
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance
- Basic computer and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and use good judgment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patient, calm, and dependable demeanor
- Experience in residential or group home settings
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain on feet for portions of the shift
- Ability to perform light household tasks (cleaning, cooking, organizing)
