Location: Truss Plant / Shop Environment Schedule: Monday–Friday (hours set by Shop Supervisor)
Position Summary
We are seeking a reliable Sawyer to support our Truss and Wall Departments by accurately cutting and preparing lumber for production. This role is critical to keeping operations running safely, efficiently, and on schedule. The Sawyer works closely with the Shop Supervisor and production team to ensure materials are cut to specification and staged correctly.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate saws to cut lumber according to pick lists and cut lists
- Load and stage cut materials in the correct order for truss batches
- Stack, band, label, and transport lumber to designated staging areas
- Set saw controls to achieve proper dimensions and angles
- Perform quality checks on raw materials and finished cut products
- Operate industrial trucks or electric hoists to move materials
- Complete daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow OSHA regulations and all company safety policies
- Wear required PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves)
- Assist with restocking materials and other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
Experience
- At least 6 months working with building materials (construction, retail, or sales)
- At least 6 months operating industrial or production saw equipment preferred.
Skills & Abilities
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Ability to read instructions, diagrams, and work orders
- Knowledge of safe lifting techniques
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and general computer use
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and crawling
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 lbs (team lifting for heavier items)
- Ability to safely operate tools and equipment
- Visual acuity, depth perception, and field of vision (with or without correction)
Work Environment
- Manufacturing shop environment with regular exposure to noise and dust
- Occasional outdoor temperature exposure
- Daily work with mechanical and industrial equipment
