What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mammography Technologist position at SimonMed?
Job Duties:
- Perform screening and diagnostic mammography examinations in compliance with ACR, MQSA, and facility protocols.
- Position patients accurately and ensure proper breast compression to obtain optimal imaging results while ensuring patient comfort and dignity.
- Select appropriate exposure parameters for optimal image quality while minimizing patient radiation dose using the ALARA Principal.
- Operate and maintain mammography equipment
- Monitor image quality and ensure proper documentation and labeling of images.
- Verify patient identity and medical history and explain procedures clearly to ensure patient understanding.
- Maintain accurate patient records
- Practice radiation safety (ALARA) and infection control standards at all times.
- Perform quality assurance
- Maintain continuing education and certification requirements in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Provide hands-on training and mentorship to students during clinical rotations, ensuring competency in imaging procedures, safety protocols, and patient care standards while fostering professionalism, confidence, and skill development.
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from an accredited radiologic technology program
- Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R)
- Advanced certification in Mammography (M) from ARRT required
- Current state radiologic technologist license (if applicable per state)
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in mammography preferred (may vary by employer)
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Maintain MQSA compliance 15 breast CEU's every three years.
- Tomography training documentation
- Digital training documentation
- Initial mammography training documentation to include 25 signed off exams
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of mammographic procedures, anatomy, and positioning techniques
- Familiarity with MQSA, ACR, and HIPAA regulations and compliance standards
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to comfort and guide patients through procedures.
- Proficiency in operating digital- tomography-mammography equipment, RIS, and PACS systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify image quality and positioning issues.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle sensitive patient situations with empathy and professionalism.
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
