It is an accredited Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) at the United Nations, UNESCO, the Organization of American States, the Latin American Parliament, and the Council of Europe and maintains relationships with the highest levels of governments throughout the world.
In 1993, the Center opened the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles to worldwide acclaim. The Museum has served as the Center’s flagship educational arm, challenging visitors to confront bigotry and racism, and to understand the Holocaust in both historical and contemporary contexts. In addition, the Center developed Moriah Media to produce theatrical documentaries to educate global audiences. Moriah has produced 17 documentaries to date, two of which have received the Academy Award for best feature documentary, The Long Way Home and Genocide.
Position Summary
The Director of Development is a key leadership role responsible for driving major gift fundraising, donor engagement, and stewardship to advance the mission of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Based in San Francisco and reporting to the Executive Vice President, Development West, the Director will manage a portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation donors while contributing to strategic development efforts throughout the Western United States.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and execute a comprehensive major gifts fundraising strategy to support institutional priorities.
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major donors, with a focus on those capable of contributing $25,000 annually.
- Partner with the EVP, Development West to identify new funding opportunities and increase donor retention and lifetime value.
- Organize and oversee donor-focused events, parlor meetings, and cultivation experiences throughout the region.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, program staff, and communications teams to produce compelling proposals, reports, and donor communications.
- Leverage board members, volunteers, and community leaders to expand the Center’s donor network.
- Maintain accurate donor records and pipeline reports using CRM/database tools (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce).
- Supervise junior development staff or consultants as assigned.
Qualifications
- 7–10 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on major gifts and donor relations.
- Proven track record of securing five- and six-figure gifts from individuals and institutions.
- Exceptional relationship-building, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience planning and executing fundraising events and donor engagement strategies.
- Proficiency with fundraising databases and CRM tools; Raiser’s Edge experience is a plus.
- Deep commitment to the mission of the Simon Wiesenthal Center; knowledge of Jewish community affairs and Holocaust education a strong advantage.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or CFRE certification a plus.
