About the position
The Robotics Coach will be responsible for recruiting students and creating teams, supervising practices, and traveling to competitions. The role involves facilitating the development and implementation of student learning, collecting necessary paperwork, and collaborating with the Program Coordinator about program plans and needs. The coach will also communicate with parents about schedules and travel logistics, while developing student leadership skills and deepening their STEM knowledge. The regular season lasts from mid-September through mid-April, which would include a minimum commitment of 5-10 hours per week of practices. As competitions near, additional practices at the coach's discretion would be expected. The coach will travel to all-day events/competitions, including the State Championship, held on weekends. If teams qualify for the National/World Championship, an extended season will last through May, requiring additional practices and out-of-state travel.
Responsibilities:
- Manage to ensure efficiency, shared workloads, accountability, and learning opportunities for students with varied skill sets and experience.
- Mechanical, electrical, coding, and game-play best practices and strategies
- Recruit students and create teams.
- Supervise practices and travel to competitions.
- Facilitate the development and implementation of student learning.
- Management of materials and proper use of tools and equipment.
- Collaborate with the Program Coordinator about program plans and needs.
- Communicate with parents about schedules and travel logistics.
- Proactively handle any disciplinary issues.
- Develop student leadership skills.
- Deepen student STEM knowledge and skills.
- Coordinate and recruit volunteers, as needed.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work as a team player and understand the needs of high school students.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Attendance and punctuality are important functions of this position.
- May require prolonged sitting or standing.
