WE ARE HIRING FOR A COMMERCIAL HVAC & REFRIGERATION SERVICE TECHNICIAN APPRENTICE FOR AUSTIN, TEXAS, AND SURROUNDING AREAS.
PAY RANGE: $20.00 - $30.00 PER HOUR, DOE
Job Summary
Assist experienced HVAC/R Technicians in installing, maintaining and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration systems and kitchen cooking equipment in commercial and industrial environments. You will learn and apply skills in reading blueprints, understanding equipment specifications, and performing hands-on work under close supervision. This is a training position designed to build foundational skills and knowledge in HVAC and refrigeration systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Aid in performing routine maintenance, such as changing filters, cleaning coils, and checking refrigerant levels, etc.
• Assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting problems, learning to identify issues like leaks, electrical malfunctions, or mechanical failures.
• Observe and practice how to install and repair mechanical components, electrical systems, safely and accurately.
• Assist with the installation of commercial equipment such as kitchen cooking equipment, refrigerators, reach-in coolers and walk-in coolers, etc.
• Learn how to properly connect electrical wiring, refrigerant lines, and gas lines to equipment following manufacturer instructions and local codes.
• Help position and mount equipment such as rooftop units, thermostats, and other control systems for heating, cooling, and ventilation.
• Learn to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
• Assist with inventory management and stock replenishment.
• Maintain records of parts ordered, delivered, and used.
• Attend training sessions and classes, either on the job or through a trade school program, to expand knowledge of HVAC/R systems, including regulations and safety protocols.
• Learn and follow all company, state, and federal safety protocols and guidelines, including those related to working with refrigerants, electrical components, and ventilation systems.
• Work with clients, contractors, engineers, managers, dispatchers and other tradespeople while performing this job.
• Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work area, ensuring tools and materials are properly organized and used safely.
• Shadow experienced technicians on service calls and learn how to communicate effectively with customers by explaining what work is being done and answering any basic questions.
• Provide support in documenting service calls, including taking notes on what work was performed, etc.
Qualifications:Requirements and Qualifications
• All qualified candidates must complete a pre-employment drug screen, motor vehicle (MVR) check, and background check. Additionally, candidates must maintain an insurable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance provider.
• Driver’s license must be registered in the state that you will be working in.
• For jobs in the state of Texas you will need to be TDLR Certified.
• Need to have Universal EPA 608 Certification for handling refrigerants or working towards getting it.
• Must be prepared to handle emergency repair calls and may be required to work on weekends or after regular business hours.
• Willingness to learn, follow instructions, and work in a physically demanding environment.
• Must own your own tools to perform the job.
• The company will provide transportation and the certain tools that you will be responsible for.
• Enrollment or completion of a vocational or technical training program in HVAC/R or a related field is preferred but not required.
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems, electrical systems, refrigeration systems or kitchen cooking equipment is a plus.
• May ask for references from previous employment.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and carry heavy tools or equipment (up to 50 lbs or more).
• Comfortable working in environments that may be hot, cold, or cramped.
• Ability to stand, bend, or kneel for extended periods while working on equipment.
