The Houseman is a highly trusted, hands-on role that helps hold daily operations together at Silver Sands. This position supports room readiness, inventory accuracy, guest movement, and cross-department coordination, working closely with Guest Services and Housekeeping to ensure the property runs smoothly and guests experience seamless care.
Housemen are expected to develop strong working knowledge of room standards, in-room inventory, and daily operational priorities. This is a physical, detail-oriented role that requires pride in the product, consistency, and a calm, guest-forward presence.
Mission of the Role
To support a seamless guest experience by ensuring rooms, inventory, and public areas are consistently guest-ready, well-stocked, and aligned with Silver Sands’ standards, while serving as a key operational link between Guest Services and Housekeeping.
Key Responsibilities
Room Readiness, Inspections & Inventory
- Complete room inspection and inventory sheets during room turns and prior to guest arrival
- Build working knowledge of what belongs in each room category, including furnishings, linens, amenities, and layout standards
- Identify, document, and report missing, damaged, or incorrect items promptly
- Support pre-arrival room checks for priority accommodations as assigned
- Assist with room breakdowns following guest departure in accordance with SOPs
Housekeeping Support
- Assist Housekeeping by building and staging carts at the start of the day
- Help replenish linens, towels, and supplies throughout shifts as needed
- Support efficient room flow by responding to housekeeping needs in real time
- Maintain clean, organized storage and staging areas when assigned
Guest Services Coordination
- Work closely with Guest Services on daily priorities, including:
- Early check-ins and late checkouts
- Room moves and special requests
- Luggage assistance and guest support
- Communicate clearly with Guest Services regarding room status and readiness
- Support guest-facing moments with professionalism and discretion
Guest Service & Luggage Support
- Assist arriving and departing guests with luggage when requested
- Support guest movements across the property, especially for Beach Shacks, Bungalows, and Houses
- Maintain a calm, friendly, and respectful presence during all guest interactions
Property & Public Areas
- Help maintain the cleanliness, order, and presentation of public spaces, including:
- Boardwalks and guest pathways
- Towel stations and shared guest areas
- Reset furniture and guest areas as needed throughout the day
- Support daily setup and breakdown of guest programming or activities when assigned
Light Maintenance & Daily Reporting
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks when trained and appropriate
- Report maintenance issues promptly to the Lead Houseman or Maintenance team
- Complete daily task lists and inspection sheets accurately and on time
Professional Standards & Teamwork
- Arrive on time, in uniform, and guest-ready for each shift
- Follow direction from the Lead Houseman and Housekeeping Supervisor
- Work collaboratively across departments with a solutions-oriented mindset
- Attend required trainings and team meetings
- Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and follow through consistently
Qualifications & Requirements
- Previous hospitality, housekeeping, or operations experience preferred
- Strong attention to detail and comfort following standards and checklists
- Ability to learn and retain room standards and inventory requirements
- Guest-focused mindset with a professional, composed demeanor
· Ability to learn and use property systems, including iPad or tablet-based programs, to complete room inspections and document missing or incorrect items
· Ability to review inspection sheets and reports, identify discrepancies, and work collaboratively with Guest Services and Housekeeping to resolve them
- Flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and variable shifts
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry 30 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move for extended periods
- Ability to perform physical tasks efficiently while maintaining professionalism
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to safely navigate uneven terrain including gravel paths, boardwalks, and outdoor walkways, and to work outdoors in varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions, given the layout of the property
