Assistant Instructor – Ranch Explorers Program

About Us
Silver Sage Ranch School is a nonprofit equine-assisted and ranch-based learning program located in Menifee, CA. We provide hands-on, nature-based educational experiences for children through our Ranch Explorers program, Little Ranchers, therapeutic equine sessions, and seasonal camps and events. Our mission is to help children learn, grow, and thrive through meaningful connection with animals, land, and community.
Position Overview
We are seeking a caring, energetic Assistant Instructor to support our Ranch Explorers Program working with children ages 4–10 in an outdoor farm and ranch setting. This role involves assisting with class activities, supporting animal care and safety, helping maintain a positive learning environment, and interacting warmly with students and families.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about agriculture, outdoor education, child development, special education, animal care, or equine-assisted learning.
Responsibilities
- Assist lead instructor during Ranch Explorers classes and activities
- Support safe and age-appropriate interactions with ranch animals (horses, goats, chickens, etc.)
- Help set up and clean up class materials, learning stations, and ranch activity areas
- Model kind, respectful behavior and positive communication
- Maintain safety and supervision standards at all times
- Greet parents, help with check-in/out, and provide friendly customer service
- Help with basic ranch tasks (sweeping, raking, refreshing water, feed prep, etc.)
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience working with children (teaching, childcare, camps, coaching, etc.)
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to follow instructions, take initiative, and communicate clearly
- Reliable transportation and consistent punctuality
Preferred but not required:
- Experience with horses or farm animals
- Background in early childhood education, outdoor education, agriculture, or special education
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Training is provided.
Schedule & Compensation
- Hours: 15–20 hours per week
- Schedule: Primarily weekday mornings and early afternoons; occasional weekends for events
- Pay: $16.50 per hour
