Ovid Napa Valley is seeking a Cellar Worker to join the production team. This role is integral to the daily execution of our winemaking program and supports a thoughtful, detail-driven approach to winegrowing.
Summary
Working under limited supervision, the Cellar Worker is responsible for carrying out a wide range of cellar operations with precision and care. This position requires consistency, physical capability, and a strong sense of accountability in maintaining the quality and integrity of our wines.
Responsibilities
- Perform all standard cellar operations, including racking, pumping, clarifying, and blending
- Execute barrel work such as filling, stacking, washing, topping, and maintenance
- Prepare, clean, and sanitize tanks, hoses, and all cellar and bottling equipment
- Operate and maintain cellar equipment including pumps, presses, and filters
- Support harvest activities including fruit processing, pump-overs, pressing, tank cleaning, and additions
- Monitor fermentations and communicate any irregularities
- Accurately document wine movements and cellar work in Vintrace
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Adhere to all safety protocols and utilize appropriate PPE
This role may also include participation in vineyard activities and collaboration in training seasonal team members.
Requirements:
Qualifications
- Minimum one year of cellar experience with a solid understanding of cellar operations and equipment
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and complete work with accuracy
- Strong attention to detail and a consistent, methodical approach to tasks
- Basic computer proficiency; experience with Vintrace preferred
- Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record
- Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends, during harvest and other critical periods
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects, including wine barrels
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing
- Comfort working at heights and in confined spaces
- Flexibility to work extended hours during harvest
Work Environment
- Winery cellar environment with cool temperatures and moderate noise
- Exposure to fermentation gases and cleaning agents
- Work performed around heavy equipment and moving machinery
