Summer Camp Instructor
Make a positive difference in the lives of elementary school children by teaching them to play chess!
Silver Knights Chess Academy has taught chess to over 100,000 children since 2006! More than 50 of our students have become state or national scholastic chess champions, but our typical student is a regular kid looking to learn a new skill and have fun. We provide the curriculum and paid chess training. Come join us!
You will be a great fit if you:
- Want to work with children (ages 5-16).
- Want to play chess! You don't have to be a master-level player, but you do need to understand the basics of the game.
- Are available to work full-time Monday through Friday most weeks over the summer.
- Experience as a camp counselor, tutor, teacher, coach, instructor, or in preschool or daycare is a plus!
You will receive thorough, paid training on how to help children learn chess.
Earn $17 - $21 per hour
Additional Qualifications:
- Ability to lift 25 lbs of teaching equipment
- This position requires a moderate level of physical activity which includes consistent walking or standing, going up/down stairs and being on your feet for most of the day
- Must be available at least 5 weeks between June 15th and August 21st.
- Applicants must be 18 years or older by June 1st
Responsibilities:
- Manage a classroom of up to 15 students
- Use our curriculum to demonstrate and effectively communicate all of the basic rules (piece movement, how to castle, check, checkmate, etc) and strategy
- Implement child safety measures
- Promote good sportsmanship among students
- Responsibly store and maintain all teaching equipment and materials
- Supervise parent pickup
