SUMMARY
The Maintenance Automation Technician in a can filling manufacturing facility is a critical role responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of automated machinery used in the production and packaging of canned products. This position involves maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing the automation systems to minimize downtime and maximize production output. Works closely with the maintenance team, production personnel, and engineering staff to ensure the facility's automation systems are operating at peak performance.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Responsible and required to notify management about actual or potential food safety issues; and empowered to act to resolve food safety issues within their scope of work. If this position is vacant for any significant period of time the obligation for completion of all food safety and quality related tasks will become the responsibility of the direct manager or a qualified designee.

Skills/ Knowledge
Possesses all basic and some advanced skills and knowledge. Has a thorough understanding of automated manufacturing equipment, manufacturing processes and programmable logic controllers.
Computer Skills
Must have basic knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, AutoCAD, as well as programing software such as Studio 5000, Factory Talk View, or similar
Education
One year certificate from college or technical school; or 1 year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven experience as a Maintenance Automation Technician in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the beverage industry. Strong knowledge of automation technologies, including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and robotic systems.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Read and understand electrical drawings, parts drawings, P&IDs, and ladder logic diagrams
- Troubleshoot non-functioning components including PLCs, VFDs, sensors, and control components
- Troubleshoot process issues in existing PLC code
- Perform routine diagnostic checks and inspections of automation equipment for defects or malfunctions
- Update P&IDs, electrical drawings and other engineering documentation as needed
- Identify, develop, and implement improvements to increase capacity, efficiency and/or quality for existing automated processes
- Improve existing preventative maintenance and commissioning programs
- Program PLCs and HMIs for updates and improvements to manufacturing line.
- Work with vendors to procure necessary materials and services.
- Monitor, measure, and report automated system performance.
- Understand and program plant automation, monitoring, and control systems.
- Assist in the design and development of new automation systems including both mechanical and electrical components
- Perform low voltage electrical wiring and plumbing for automated equipment
- Commission and calibrate instrumentation used within the process control system
- Communicate and work effectively with managers, maintenance technicians, process technicians, and other operators to solve problems, take direction, assign work, expedite repairs, etc.
- Perform all job duties efficiently, reliability and safely.
- Maintain clean work area through good housekeeping practices.
