We are seeking a skilled and highly organized Denim Technical Designer to support the development and execution of denim products from concept through production. This role bridges design and manufacturing, ensuring fit, construction, and quality standards are met while maintaining clear, well‑organized technical documentation. The ideal candidate brings strong follow‑through, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment. Success in this role requires excellent communication, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams. This position reports to the Director of Pattern Making/Technical Design.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Design & Product Development
- Denim specifications — Create detailed comments for denim styles, including measurements, construction, washes, and trims.
- Cross‑functional collaboration — Work with Design, PD, and Production to translate design intent into production‑ready specs.
- Fit evaluation — Participate in fittings, assess samples, and provide clear fit, correction, and grading feedback.
- Fit consistency — Ensure consistent fit across styles, fabrics, and seasons.
Documentation & Tools
- Technical flats — Develop flats, sketches, and construction callouts using Illustrator or similar tools.
- Visual communication — Create visualized fit comments and presentation materials using Photoshop or equivalent.
- Digital organization — Maintain organized templates, files, and seasonal documentation.
Fit, Construction & Quality
- Pattern collaboration — Partner with pattern makers to maintain accurate specs and grading rules.
- Fabric rule management — Track fabric guidelines and ensure samples meet brand fit and quality standards.
- Technical revisions — Communicate updates and corrections to internal teams and vendors.
Process Management & Follow‑Up
- Sample tracking — Monitor proto, fit, DUP, and RSS stages; maintain an organized fit library.
- WIP tracking — Update trackers and ensure deadlines and milestones are met.
- Fit documentation — Record fit comments, approvals, and revisions for clear traceability.
- Stakeholder alignment — Keep teams informed of changes, risks, and timelines.
Communication & Fitting Coordination
- Fit guidance — Partner with Design and Merchandising to ensure fit aligns with brand and customer expectations.
- Fit intent communication — Clearly communicate risks, recommendations, and fit direction.
- Fit scheduling — Manage fitting calendars and ensure key stakeholders are present.
- Fit preparation — Coordinate pre‑fit setup and post‑fit follow‑up to ensure all actions are completed.
Vendor Collaboration
- Technical troubleshooting — Work with pattern makers and production teams to resolve technical issues.
- Sample feedback — Provide clear, actionable comments on vendor submissions.
- Timeline support
Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency in technical design tools, including Illustrator and Photoshop (or similar). Deep understanding of denim construction, washes, and fabric behavior.
- Expertise in garment fit, grading, and pattern construction.
- Experience creating production-ready tech packs and working within PLM systems such as Centric.
- 3 years in technical design- a focus on denim would be preferred.
- Experience working with global vendors and factories is an asset Experience with Optitex is an asset
