Essential Duties And Responsibilities
THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Operate a commercial garbage truck to collect and transport waste materials from designated areas within the processing facility and surrounding grounds.
- Follow established routes and schedules to ensure timely waste collection.
- Perform pre-and post-trip inspections of the garbage truck, ensuring it is in safe operating condition.
- Properly load and secure waste materials to prevent spills and ensure safe transport.
- Transport waste to designated disposal sites, following all applicable regulations and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of waste collection and disposal activities.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including those related to hazardous materials handling.
- Perform general cleaning and maintenance of the garbage truck.
- Assist with other sanitation tasks as needed, such as cleaning and organizing waste storage areas.
- Work effectively in varying weather conditions, including rain, snow, and cold temperatures.
- Communicate effectively with facility staff and supervisors.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Other duties to help support teams and entire organization.
TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY, AN INDIVIDUAL SHOULD DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL COMPETENCIES:

- DRIVING PROFICIENCY:Excellent driving skills with experience operating large commercial vehicles.
- EQUIPMENT OPERATION:Ability to operate and maintain garbage truck equipment, including hydraulic systems and compactors.
- PHYSICAL STAMINA:Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- RECORD KEEPING:Ability to maintain accurate records of waste collection and disposal activities.
- REGULATORY COMPLIANCE:Knowledge of and ability to comply with waste management regulations.
- MECHANICAL APTITUDE:Basic mechanical knowledge for performing pre-and post-trip inspections and minor maintenance.
- ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS:Understanding of and commitment to environmentally responsible waste disposal practices.
- TEAMWORK: Ability to work collaboratively with facility staff and supervisors.
- COMMUNICATION: Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- RELIABILITY: Punctual and dependable, with a strong work ethic.
- ADAPTABILITY:Ability to adapt to changing conditions and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- PROBLEM-SOLVING: Ability to identify and resolve issues related to waste collection and disposal.
- SAFETY CONSCIOUSNESS:Strong commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B or higher is required.
- Clean driving record is essential.
- 3-5 years operating a commercial garbage truck or similar heavy-duty vehicle is preferred.
- Familiarity with waste management regulations and procedures is a plus.
- Experience working in remote or challenging environments, particularly in Alaska, is beneficial.
