Position Overview:
Silco Fire & Security is seeking a highly skilled Special Hazards Fire Suppression Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience designing engineered suppression systems such as clean agent, CO ₂ , and other non-water-based systems, along with strong knowledge of applicable NFPA standards. This role supports new construction, retrofits, and system upgrades across mission-critical and high-value risk environments.

Silco Fire & Security is seeking a highly skilled Special Hazards Fire Suppression Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience designing engineered suppression systems such as clean agent, CO ₂ , and other non-water-based systems, along with strong knowledge of applicable NFPA standards. This role supports new construction, retrofits, and system upgrades across mission-critical and high-value risk environments.
Responsibilities:
- Develop engineered designs for special hazards fire suppression systems, including clean agent (FM-200, Novec 1230), inert gas, and CO₂ systems.
- Perform field assessments to evaluate hazard classifications, protected assets, and environmental conditions.
- Produce detailed system layouts, flow calculations, piping schematics, and equipment specifications using CAD or specialized design software.
- Prepare submittal packages for AHJ review and approval.
- Interpret and apply applicable codes including NFPA 2001, NFPA 12, NFPA 17, and NFPA 17A.
- Complete agent quantity calculations and verify system performance requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and project teams to integrate suppression systems with detection and release systems.
- Assist with material takeoffs, cost estimates, and procurement documentation.
- Review design packages for accuracy, compliance, and constructability.
- NICET certification (Special Hazards or Fire Protection Engineering Technology preferred)
- 3 years of experience designing special hazards fire suppression systems
- Strong understanding of NFPA 2001, NFPA 12, and related standards
- Experience with clean agent system design and calculations
- Proficiency with CAD or industry-specific design tools
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Commissioning and testing of clean agent systems
- Room integrity testing coordination
- Detection and releasing system integration
- Manufacturer certifications (Kidde, Ansul, etc.)
