What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Radar Modeling & Simulation Engineer position at Signature Solutions, Inc.?
RF Modeling & Simulation Engineer β Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL)
Signature Solutions, Inc. (SSI) is seeking an RF Modeling & Simulation Engineer to support the development, analysis, and verification of radio-frequency (RF) phenomenology and signal-processing models used in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL/HIL) simulation environments.
This position is well suited for an engineer with a strong foundation in RF systems, radar, signal processing, and electromagnetic phenomenology who is interested in applying those skills to complex simulation and test environments.
Responsibilities
The selected candidate will support the modeling, simulation, analysis, implementation, and verification of RF physical phenomena associated with radar and electronic warfare systems. Responsibilities may include:
- Develop and analyze RF and radar phenomenology models for use in HWIL/HIL simulation environments.
- Model RF interactions with targets, clutter, and the surrounding environment.
- Support modeling of RF scattering, target signatures, propagation, and other physical RF phenomena.
- Analyze radar waveforms, signal-processing techniques, and sensor responses.
- Develop and evaluate models representing radar and RF system performance.
- Support modeling and analysis of Electronic Attack (EA) techniques and their effects on RF/radar systems.
- Perform signal-processing and engineering analysis using recorded, simulated, and HWIL-generated data.
- Develop, modify, and evaluate engineering software used for modeling and analysis.
- Conduct verification and validation (V&V) of models and simulation components.
- Compare simulation results with analytical predictions, test data, and other modeling tools.
- Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting HWIL test, simulation, RF systems, and system-level analysis.
- Document modeling approaches, assumptions, analysis results, and V&V activities.
Desired Technical Background
Candidates should have experience or academic background in several of the following areas:
- Digital and analog signal-processing theory
- Radar systems and radar signal processing
- Radar waveforms and waveform processing
- RF systems and RF circuitry
- Antenna theory and antenna performance
- Electromagnetic propagation and RF phenomenology
- RF scattering and target signatures
- Target and clutter modeling
- Electronic Attack (EA) / Electronic Warfare (EW) concepts
- Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL/HIL) simulation
- Modeling, simulation, analysis, and verification
- Engineering software development and numerical analysis
Software Skills
Experience with one or more of the following is desired:
- MATLAB
- C/C
- Fortran
Experience developing engineering algorithms, processing RF or radar data, implementing mathematical models, or integrating algorithms into simulation environments is particularly valuable.
Qualifications
- 5 years experience in related field
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical discipline
- Strong understanding of engineering mathematics and physical systems
- Ability to translate physical RF phenomena and mathematical concepts into computational models
- Ability to analyze simulation and test data and communicate engineering conclusions
- Strong problem-solving and technical communication skills
Experience with radar, electronic warfare, RF simulation, electromagnetic modeling, or HWIL systems is preferred but candidates with strong fundamentals and relevant signal-processing or RF backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
About the Role
This is not strictly an RF hardware-design position. The primary focus is the application of RF, radar, electromagnetic, and signal-processing knowledge to modeling and simulation of physical phenomena in HWIL environments. The engineer will bridge the areas of RF physics, radar systems, software, and simulation to help create realistic representations of the RF environment for system development and testing.
