What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outside Sales Representative position at Signarama Danbury, CT?
About Us:
Signarama Danbury is a family-owned leader in the signage industry, offering high-quality custom signs, graphics, and branding solutions to businesses throughout the Greater Danbury area. With cutting-edge equipment and a passion for exceptional service, we help businesses stand out and achieve their goals.
We are seeking an Outside Sales Representative to join our team. This role is built for a driven, self-motivated hunter who is energized by being out of the shop — prospecting, networking, and building new client relationships. Your primary measure of success is new and repeat business won. This is perfect for someone who is outgoing, organized, and thrives on turning cold outreach and networking connections into signed clients.
Responsibilities:
New Business Development & Prospecting (Primary Focus):
• Spend the majority of your time outside the shop actively prospecting for new business — cold outreach, canvassing, referrals, and lead follow-up.
• Attend a minimum of 5 networking events per month (Chamber of Commerce, BNI or similar referral groups, trade associations, local business mixers) to build a referral pipeline and raise Signarama Danbury's visibility in the community.
• Identify and target new commercial accounts across the Greater Danbury area, including businesses opening, relocating, rebranding, or expanding.
• Build and maintain a personal network of referral sources (contractors, real estate agents, property managers, chambers of commerce) that consistently feeds new opportunities.
Sales & Client Engagement:
• Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective clients, understanding their needs and presenting tailored signage solutions.
• Prepare and present accurate quotes, and negotiate and close new business.
• Conduct on-site visits to prospective and existing clients to scope projects, take measurements, and gather photos for the design and production teams.
• Build relationships that drive repeat business and referrals from new clients once they're onboarded.
Handoff & Account Support:
• Once a sale is closed, hand the project off clearly to the design, production, and installation teams, providing all client specifications gathered in the field.
• Stay engaged as the client's relationship owner — checking in during the project and at completion to protect the relationship and identify future opportunities.
Administrative Duties:
• Use CRM software to log prospecting activity, track pipeline, manage follow-ups, and update client records.
• Prepare contracts and required sales documentation in a timely, organized manner.
• Track and report on networking activity and new business results.
Team Collaboration:
• Work closely with designers, production, and installation staff to ensure the feasibility and quality of promised signage solutions.
• Support team efforts to streamline processes and improve customer satisfaction.
• Complete Signarama in-store training utilizing the following: Signarama Front Counter Sales video, Signarama Sign Product Training video, Signarama Sign Production Techniques, Signarama Key Lines, and the Operations Manual.
• Maintain an organized, professional appearance at all times when representing Signarama Danbury in the field and at networking events.
Skills & Experience Required:
• Outside Sales Experience: Proven track record in outside sales, business development, or new-account acquisition, preferably in a B2B environment. "Hunter" mentality strongly preferred over "farmer."
• Networking & Relationship Building: Comfortable and confident attending networking events regularly (minimum 5/month), striking up conversations, and converting connections into business relationships.
• Self-Motivated & Independent: Able to manage your own schedule and pipeline with minimal daily oversight while consistently hitting activity and revenue goals.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage and influence prospective clients.
• Tech-Savvy: Proficient in CRM tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and general sales-tracking software.
• Measurements: Must be able to use a tape measure, cell phone camera, and other tools to gather accurate measurements and photos on-site for design and production teams.
• Reliable Transportation: Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle required for regular travel to client sites and networking events.
• Team Player: Ability to collaborate effectively across departments in a fast-paced environment. Outgoing personality, excellent communication and customer service skills, and the drive to build strong new relationships in the community.
Salary: Base pay plus commission commensurate with experience. Weekly gas allowance provided.
Standard Working Hours: This is a field-based role. Core hours are 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday – Friday, with flexibility to structure the day around prospecting calls, client visits, and site measurements. Regular attendance at evening or early-morning networking events is a required part of the role. (Willing to consider part-time school-friendly hours for parents, i.e. 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, adjusted around event attendance.)
