Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Fiber Technician to join our team. This role involves the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks to deliver high-speed internet and telecommunication services directly to residential customers. Duties
- Install and splice fiber optic cables using fiber splicing techniques and hand tools.
- Set up and configure network equipment including Cisco routers, Ethernet switches, and telephony systems.
- Perform network installation and testing to ensure optimal connectivity and performance.
- Conduct field service activities such as cabling, grounding, and mechanical assembly of telecommunication infrastructure.
- Use testing equipment such as ohmmeters and low voltage testers to diagnose network issues.
- Troubleshoot fiber optic lines, electrical systems, and network components in residential environments.
- Maintain detailed documentation of work performed, including cable routes, splicing points, and test results.
- Adhere to safety protocols related to electrical work, low voltage systems, and mechanical handling of equipment.
- Provide excellent customer service by explaining technical issues clearly and professionally during installations or repairs.
Experience
- Prior experience with fiber splicing, network installation, or field service in telecommunication environments is preferred.
- Knowledge of Cisco routers, Ethernet networking, telephony systems, and cabling practices is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with hand tools, mechanical assembly, and electrical systems is essential.
- Service technician experience within the telecommunication or broadband industry is advantageous.
- Familiarity with low voltage wiring, electrical troubleshooting, and use of testing devices such as ohmmeters is a plus.
- Strong understanding of computer networking principles including Ethernet protocols and network security fundamentals.
- Ability to work independently in the field with mechanical knowledge of telecommunication infrastructure components. This role requires a proactive individual with technical expertise in fiber optics and networking who can deliver reliable service while maintaining safety standards on-site.
