Overview:
Signal Service Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Fire Alarm Drafting Specialist to join our Sales and Installation team. This position is responsible for creating accurate AutoCAD drawings and construction documents based on fire alarm system designs developed by our Fire System Engineer. The ideal candidate has strong AutoCAD experience, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to produce high-quality drawings that comply with applicable fire codes, customer requirements, and industry standards.
Experience with FireCAD is highly preferred.
Responsibility:
Under the guidance of the Life Safety & Security Engineer, the below responsibilities are performed:
- Create fire alarm system CAD drawings from designs and specifications provided by the Life Safety & Security Engineer.
- Produce floor plans, device layouts, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, details, and installation drawings.
- Revise and update existing drawings as project changes occur.
- Ensure all drawings comply with NFPA, local AHJ requirements, and applicable building and fire codes.
- Organize and maintain electronic drawing files and project documentation.
- Coordinate with Fire System Engineers, Project Managers, Sales, and Installation teams to ensure drawing accuracy.
- Review plans for completeness and identify discrepancies prior to project release.
- Prepare permit submittal drawing packages when required.
- Maintain company drafting standards and CAD libraries.
- Assist with project documentation and record drawings (as-builts) upon project completion.
- Meet project deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality and accuracy.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of AutoCAD drafting experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D drafting required).
- Strong computer and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to read architectural, mechanical, and electrical construction drawings.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using FireCAD.
- Previous experience drafting fire alarm systems.
- Knowledge of NFPA 72, International Building Code (IBC), and local fire codes.
- Familiarity with fire alarm manufacturers such as DMP, Potter, Silent Knight, Notifier, Edwards, Siemens, or similar systems.
- Experience preparing permit or construction drawing packages.

- High School Diploma (required)
- Associate degree or technical certificate in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field (preferred)
