What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sign Installer / Field Service Technician position at Signage & Lighting?
We are a veteran-led commercial signage and lighting company based in West Columbia, SC. We support national brands, franchise groups, property managers, and local businesses by keeping their signs and exterior lighting operational, compliant, and visible. We have been serving the Midlands since the 1990s.
We are looking for a field technician to join our crew. Pay depends on what you bring to the table. If you are a helper with a strong trades background who wants to learn the sign industry, there is a seat for you. If you are a lead-level installer who can run jobs independently, there is a seat for you too.
WHAT THE JOB LOOKS LIKE
- Install, repair, and maintain commercial signage and exterior lighting at retail, restaurant, medical, and commercial sites
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues and resolve them safely and correctly
- Operate bucket trucks, boom lifts, and related equipment
- Work at heights using proper PPE and fall protection
- Travel to commercial properties across South Carolina, with occasional trips to NC and GA
- Take clear before, during, and after photos for every job
- Document scope, findings, parts used, and remaining issues
- Communicate clearly with the office and team regarding job status
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Background in electrical, construction, HVAC, facilities, or skilled trades
- Comfortable working at heights from bucket trucks and aerial lifts
- Able to use hand tools, power tools, and basic electrical testing equipment
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Reliable, shows up on time, follows documented processes
- Able to lift 75 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions
PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
- Sign industry experience
- Electrical license or training
- CDL or willingness to obtain
- Experience operating bucket trucks, boom lifts, or forklifts
- Military or technical training background
