Role Description The Staff ASL Interpreter is a full-time, on-site position based in Smyrna, TN. The role includes providing American Sign Language interpretation in a range of settings, such as meetings, appointments, classes, and community events, ensuring clear and accurate communication between Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing, and hearing individuals. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing for assignments, reviewing relevant terminology and context, maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards, and documenting work as required by company policies. The interpreter will collaborate with other team members, support quality assurance initiatives, and participate in ongoing professional development and training offered by the firm.
Qualifications
- Strong ASL proficiency and demonstrated ability to interpret between ASL and spoken English in real-time.
- Knowledge of Deaf culture, DeafBlind communication needs, and best practices for serving Hard of Hearing individuals.
- Ability to work on-site in Smyrna, TN with reliable punctuality and professional demeanor across diverse settings.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills, with the ability to remain neutral and impartial.
- Commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, and adherence to interpreting standards and guidelines.
- Certification or licensure as required by Tennessee regulations (e.g., state-level license, national certification such as RID), or eligibility and willingness to obtain such credentials.
