What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Vice President of Engineering position at Sigma360?
Sigma360 (www.sigma360.com) is redefining how financial institutions detect and prevent financial crime. We are venture backed, founder-led and build advanced risk intelligence and screening technology that helps compliance teams move faster, make better decisions, and stop bad actors at scale. Our platform sits at the intersection of big data, AI, and mission-critical financial infrastructure.
We are entering a key growth phase and are looking for an exceptional engineering leader to help scale our platform, team, and technical vision.
We’re a super collaborative team that values ownership, clarity, and practical problem solving.
The Role
We are hiring a hands-on engineering leader who has helped scale technology companies from Series A/B through high-growth stages. This is a builder’s role: you’ll set technical direction, grow and lead a high-performing team, and stay close to the architecture and code powering our data and intelligence platform.
You’ll partner closely with Product, Data, and Go-To-Market leadership to deliver a platform that is scalable, resilient, and built for the future of AI-driven financial crime detection.
What You’ll Do
Technical Leadership
- Own the architecture and evolution of Sigma360’s core platform, with a strong focus on big data, distributed systems, and AI-ready infrastructure
- Make high-quality, pragmatic technical decisions that balance speed, scalability, and long-term maintainability
- Stay hands-on in system design, code reviews, and key technical initiatives
Team Building & Scaling
- Recruit, develop, and lead a world-class engineering team across backend, data, and platform engineering
- Build strong engineering culture, processes, and delivery discipline while preserving startup velocity
- Mentor senior engineers and emerging leaders; create clear growth paths
Platform & Data Excellence
- Lead the design of large-scale data ingestion, enrichment, and search systems
- Ensure our platform can handle massive, complex, and evolving datasets used in financial crime and risk intelligence
- Drive best practices in performance, reliability, observability, and security
- Measure, report on, and optimize infrastructure spend
Execution & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Work closely with Product and Data teams to translate complex risk and compliance needs into scalable technical solutions
- Partner with leadership to align engineering roadmaps with company strategy and growth milestones
- Help the company scale from startup execution to durable, repeatable delivery
What We’re Looking For
Experience
- 10 years in software engineering, with significant time in high-growth startup environments or the equivalent someplace else
- Proven experience scaling engineering teams and systems from Series A/B through rapid growth and interfacing with executive leadership, the board and high-level clients
- Experience building and operating data-intensive, distributed systems at scale
Technical Depth
- Strong background in big data architectures (e.g., streaming, ETL/ELT pipelines, large-scale search, graph or entity resolution systems)
- Experience with modern data and cloud stacks (e.g., AWS/GCP/Azure, Kubernetes, data warehouses/lakes, real-time processing)
- Exposure to AI/ML applications, including leveraging of LLMs for intelligent data triage, matching and workflow automation, including familiarity with latest approaches
- Comfortable going deep in system design and code when needed — this is not a purely managerial role
Leadership & Mindset
- A player-coach who leads by example and earns trust through technical credibility
- High ownership mentality with the ability to operate in ambiguity
- Strong problem solving skills to help unblock the team
- Passion for using the latest technologies in practical, production-grade ways
- Strong communicator who can align engineers, product leaders, and executives
Nice to Haves
- Experience in financial services, fintech, or financial crime/AML/compliance technology
- Exposure to AI/ML-driven products and data science platform needs
- Experience with highly regulated or mission-critical software environments
- New York (and/or surrounding region) preferred
Why This Role Matters
Your work will directly power systems that help stop fraud, corruption, trafficking, and financial crime globally. You’ll shape not just our engineering org, but the technical foundation of a company set on becoming the category leader in risk and compliance intelligence.
If you’re excited to build serious technology, with real-world impact, at startup speed — we’d love to talk.
