General Education Assistant at Sierra Vista Primary School

Position Summary:

The General Education Educational Assistant supports kindergarten through 2nd grade students in their academic success by working with individuals and small groups, assisting teachers with instruction, and supporting specials classes such as PE, art, library, music and STEM. This position fosters a positive learning environment, assists with classroom routines and supervision, and performs duties as assigned to support the overall functioning of the school. The Educational Assistant works collaboratively with teachers, specialists, and administrators to promote student growth and success.

Qualifications:

• AA degree from a regionally accredited college or university with at least 15 credit hours in the following areas:
• Language Arts (3 hrs)
• Math (3 hrs)
• Writing (3 hrs)
• 6 hrs in any of the following content areas: reading, writing, math readiness, or professional education
  OR passing score of 457 or higher on the ParaPro Assessment
• Level III NM Public Education Department Educational Assistant License or eligibility
• Successful experience working with Tier II SAT and general education student supports
• Knowledge of explicit, research-based instruction in reading and math
• Experience with de-escalation strategies preferred
• Willingness to work cooperatively in a team-centered environment
• Strong reading, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Responsibilities:

• Assists with general education students individually or in small groups
• Supports instruction in kindergarten–2nd grade classrooms and specials classes (PE, art, music, library, STEM, etc.)
• Reinforces academic skills in alignment with teacher-planned lessons
• Supports students during instructional activities, transitions, and daily routines
• Works productively as part of a collaborative team
• Supports student safety, supervision, and positive behavior
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Lifting over 50 lbs: occasional but essential

1. Pushing & Pulling

• 75 lbs: occasional (up to 10%)
