JOB TITLE: Pest Control Applicator
DEPARTMENT: Pest Control
REPORTS TO: Sanitation/Pest Control Lead
The Pest Control Applicator is responsible for management of our internal pest control programs at both organizations. They must be diligent, observant, organized, disciplined, detail oriented and capable of providing consistent high-quality work in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to work at varying paces as determined by daily needs of the job, work independently or as part of a group, problem solve, prioritize, multitask, and maintain good communication with management regarding their findings and any pertinent matters.
Job Duties:
Traps – Monitoring & Maintenance
· Internal traps should be checked based on the need. During months when there is less activity observed, the traps should be checked three times a week. (e.g. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). During months of peak activity, traps should be checked daily.
· Outside traps should be checked based on need. During the months when there is less activity observe, the traps should be checked twice a week. During the months of higher activity, traps should be checked three times a week. (e.g. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday).
· Glue boards, lures, and bait should be changed as frequently as needed so they remain effective.
· Areas where glue boards get dirty often should be changed daily.
· Bait in outside traps should be replaced in traps if dirty, missing, eroded, or eaten (torn).
· Traps (inside & outside) should be replaced if broken and cleaned if dirty. They should be properly maintained at all times so if an inspection were to take place no non-conformances would be found.
· Traps (inside & outside) should always be in mapped locations. If they have been moved then they need to be returned to their mapped location. If this is occurring repeatedly then employee should notify management so workers operating in that area can be spoken with. They should always be correctly located so if an inspection were to take place no non-conformances would be found.
· Areas where high beetle activity is found should be monitored daily and Tempo should be applied as often as needed as a deterrent.
· Additional pheromone traps should be placed in areas where high activity is observed. These additional traps should be monitored and changed with the same frequency as mapped traps.
· Application of additional chemicals: Tempo, Roach Bait, Mouse traps should be used when needed and checked as often as needed.
Groundskeeping
· The grounds should be monitored for weeds and areas of high vegetation which can become harborage areas for pests. The grounds include the area outside by the front gates, inside by the front gates, the entire perimeter of the warehouses, scale houses, and fumigation buildings, the area in the back by bone yard and maintenance shop.
· Weed killer should be applied weekly or as often as needed to keep the weeds under control.
· Weeds should be removed using a hoe or mechanical device. They should be collected and disposed of properly.
· Frequent monitoring and consistent maintenance will help keep the facilities looking nice and deter pests.
· If chemicals are needed or equipment requires repair then management should be notified. There’s an attachment to golf cart that allows large container of chemical to be carried around and applied efficiently.
Documentation/Communication/Supply Management
· Inspection should be documented on daily logs and sent to management via e-mail daily or as often as completed.
· Food Safety Programs – records should be completed accurately and kept up to date in the event of an inspection. If revisions are needed then notify management.
· Maps should be kept up to date for both plants and the version should be amended to include additions and alterations. New copies should be provided to management.
· Trend reports – should be accurate and up to date with all traps and findings. They should be updated weekly.
· Supplies and chemicals should be kept stocked with sufficient stock to fulfill needs (no excess) and orders to replenish should be placed as needed.
· Applicator should be observant during inspections so they can communicate to management all relevant information. (i.e. high activity, infested contracts, areas of concern where consistent activity is seen, steps taken to address issues noted during inspections)
· Effective communication is imperative to ensure quality and safety of product. The goals are control and prevention to make sure we don’t become infested with pests which would jeopardize the quality and safety of our products.
· Alterations/additions may occur as deemed necessary.
· Additional job duties may be assigned as needed.
Guidelines and Expectations
· Employee should manage time wisely to complete all required tasks in a timely manner and be ready to take on any additional tasks needed to assist the organization.
· Employee must assess each situation and determine the best course of action to resolve problems or handle new challenges.
· Employee must be able to work independently or as part of a larger group.
· Employee must be able to communicate effectively with management, trainees, inspectors, etc.
· Employee is responsible to stay focused and on task to ensure all work is completed as needed.
· Employee should provide quality work which can easily be seen by management during walkarounds and internal inspections.
· Employee must stay productive and not socialize with other departments or staff unless communication is relevant to they’re job. Socializing on company time isn’t permitted.
· Employee must be responsible to arrive on time and maintain hours scheduled with the exception of illness or emergencies.
· If all tasks completed early then employee should consult with immediate supervisor on what to do next. Employee shouldn’t just go and start assisting other individuals without first consulting with management to ensure there are no pressing tasks that they can assist with.
