Duties
- Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial HVAC systems, including air conditioning units, boilers, refrigeration systems, and building automation controls.
- Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, and electrical diagrams to accurately diagnose issues.
- Conduct electrical diagnostics using tools such as ohmmeters and multimeters to identify faults within mechanical and electrical systems.
- Repair and service plumbing components related to HVAC systems, ensuring proper water flow and drainage.
- Utilize HVAC design principles to recommend system improvements or upgrades that enhance efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
- Diagnose refrigerant leaks, perform refrigerant recovery, recharge systems in accordance with EPA regulations, and handle ammonia refrigeration when necessary.
- Perform welding, mechanical repairs, equipment replacement, and general property maintenance tasks as needed.
- Maintain detailed service records, complete work orders promptly, and communicate effectively with clients regarding system status and recommendations.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards including EPA certification requirements for refrigerants and proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Operate company vehicles safely as a licensed driver while traveling between job sites efficiently.
Experience
- Proven experience as a service technician specializing in commercial HVAC/R systems with a strong mechanical background.
- Construction experience or familiarity with building construction processes is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with HVAC schematics, electrical diagnostics, plumbing systems, refrigeration techniques, and building automation systems.
- Knowledge of HVAC design principles to support system upgrades or new installations.
- Mechanical knowledge related to equipment repair including boilers, pumps, fans, valves, and other mechanical components.
- Familiarity with property maintenance tasks such as appliance repair or general building upkeep is a plus.
- Valid EPA certification for refrigerant handling; additional certifications in ammonia refrigeration or welding are advantageous.
- Experience operating diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters or multimeters in troubleshooting electrical issues.
- Ability to work independently in field service environments while maintaining high safety standards and excellent customer service skills.
