Scope of Position
The Retail Attendant is responsible for providing exceptional guest service while supporting the daily operations of the hotel's retail gift shop. This role assists guests with purchases, maintains merchandise displays, processes transactions accurately, and ensures the retail area is clean, organized, and fully stocked. The Retail Attendant plays a key role in enhancing the guest experience by creating a welcoming environment and offering knowledgeable, courteous service.
Position Requirements
- Professional demeanor appropriate for a resort environment.
- Minimum of one (1) year retail experience preferred, preferably in a hotel or resort environment.
- Previous cash handling and Point of Sale (POS) experience.
- Demonstrate outstanding guest service and communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Greet and acknowledge each guest promptly (using the guest’s name when known) with hotel greeting standard.
- Assist guests with product selections and answer questions regarding merchandise, food and beverage items, and hotel offerings.
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system and process cash, credit card, and room charge transactions accurately.
- Maintain proper cash-handling procedures and balance cash drawers at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Stock shelves, coolers, and displays while ensuring products are attractively presented and readily available.
- Monitor inventory levels and notify management of low-stock items or replenishment needs.
- Ensure merchandise is properly labeled, priced, and organized according to company standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the retail area, storage rooms, displays, and workstations.
- Rotate food and beverage products using FIFO (First In, First Out) inventory practices and monitor expiration dates.
- Assist with receiving, unpacking, and storing merchandise deliveries.
- Promote hotel services, amenities, and special promotions when appropriate.
- Address guest concerns or complaints professionally and escalate issues when necessary.
- Perform any other reasonable duties as required by management.
Education
- High school diploma or GED
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate in the English language; Second language is a plus.
- Must be able to work with basic arithmetic functions.
- Using basic computer hardware and software.
- Willing to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends.
- Proficient in performing multiple tasks.

- Experience using software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Previous knowledge of PMS system preferred, including Opera or similar programs, is beneficial, but not a requirement.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, be physically fit in order to lift, pull and push items up to 50 pounds.
- Requires standing/walking/reaching and bending throughout shift.
