Responsibilities
FUNCTION OF POSITION
Apply creative and analytical engineering ability and knowledge of Electrical Engineering design principles and techniques to execute design and support efforts ranging from very simple to complex. Provide technical input, problem definition, concept development, engineering analysis, and functional performance requirements definition. Use a self-sufficient and hands-on approach to advance designs from concept to successfully functioning hardware. Interface with all levels of customer organizations during requirement definition, design reviews, and within technical working groups.
Is technically responsible for meeting project requirements. Must be capable of working with minimal supervision at times. Successful performance in this role will lead to an increasing level of independence.
Does not normally provide direct supervision of other personnel unless assigned as a lead project engineer or task manager. May provide technical direction to engineering interns and technicians assigned to projects.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- The successful applicant will possess a BS or higher degree (granted by an ABET-accredited university) in Electrical Engineering or a sufficiently-relevant Engineering discipline and have four (4) or more years of verifyable, related work experience. Sufficiently relevant co-operative education or internship experience may be credited towards this requirement.
- Specialized knowledge and experience within one or more of the following disciplines: Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Power Engineering, High Voltage Engineering, RF Engineering, Electronics Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Systems Engineering.
- Demonstrable knowledge of general-purpose software tools such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point is required. Additional knowledge of several field-specific software tools such as SPICE-based circuit modeling tools, Altium Designer, LabVIEW, Eclipse, Thermal Desktop, PTC Creo, Solidworks, MS Project and others is required. The ideal candidate will have two or more years of experience with both industry-standard ECAD and industry-standard MCAD software tools.
- Experience in prototype-grade soldering, PCB assembly and other hands-on skills associated with electronics development is required. An understanding of the requirements of typical ESD Control Programs and a willingness and ability to meet those requirements is mandatory. A demonstration of through-hole soldering ability, SMT soldering ability, and other general electronics lab skills will be required. The ideal candidate will have current or recent IPC certifications in one or more of these skills.
- Familiarity with NFPA 70 (National Electric Code) and/or NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery) is preferred. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of electrical system design requirements applicable to the Hazardous Areas encountered in test facilities.
- Space industry experience desired including familiarity with EEE-INST-002 ‘Instructions for EEE Parts Selection, Screening, Qualification, and Derating’, and Worst-Case Analysis (WCA) assessment methods.
- US Citizenship required and the ability to qualify (and maintain qualification) for a Secret Clearance is desired.
