What are the responsibilities and job description for the AV Technical Director position at Sierra ITS?
We are launching a new in-house role to oversee and manage audiovisual systems and public meeting broadcast operations. This position will be instrumental in transitioning responsibilities from third-party vendors to internal management. We’re seeking a proactive, technically skilled individual who thrives in dynamic environments and can work independently while collaborating with city leadership and external partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Public Meeting Broadcast & Streaming Operations
- Oversee live and recorded broadcasts of city council and public meetings.
- Ensure compliance with accessibility standards (e.g., closed captioning, audio clarity).
- Manage streaming platforms and integration with government websites or cable channels.
AV System Design, Maintenance & Upgrades
- Design and maintain AV systems across city facilities.
- Plan and implement upgrades to ensure modern, reliable technology.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for installations and repairs.
Control Room & Signal Routing Management
- Operate and maintain the central control room.
- Manage signal routing for live feeds, presentations, and remote conferencing.
- Ensure redundancy and failover systems are in place.
Event Support at City Square & Theater
- Provide AV support for public events, performances, and ceremonies.
- Coordinate with event organizers for lighting, sound, and video needs.
- Ensure outdoor AV systems are weatherproof and reliable.
Training Room AV Support
- Set up and maintain AV systems in training and conference rooms.
- Support hybrid meetings with video conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
- Provide user training and documentation for city staff.
Preventative Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Conduct regular system checks and preventative maintenance.
- Diagnose and resolve AV issues quickly to minimize downtime.
- Maintain logs of incidents and repairs.
Inventory & Asset Management
- Track AV equipment inventory across all facilities.
- Manage lifecycle planning, procurement, and disposal of AV assets.
Budgeting & Procurement
- Develop and manage AV-related budgets.
- Research and recommend equipment purchases.
- Ensure compliance with government procurement policies.
Staff & Vendor Coordination
- Supervise AV technicians or contractors.
- Coordinate with IT, facilities, and communications departments.
- Ensure vendors meet performance and service level expectations.
Compliance, Documentation & Policy Development
- Maintain documentation for AV systems, wiring diagrams, and SOPs.
- Ensure compliance with ADA, FCC, and local regulations.
- Develop AV usage policies and training materials for city staff.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Strong experience with TriCaster (TC2 Elite), BlackMagic, Crestron, and Dante systems
- Familiarity with:
- Visionary Solutions encoders/decoders
- Q-Sys
- Yealink
- Owl Labs
- Panasonic PTZ cameras
- Shure microphones
- Ability to manage own schedule, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
- Experience working with third-party vendors and coordinating across departments.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
