Our Crew Leads are working supervisors responsible for leading crews, delivering quality work, developing employees, and ensuring every job is completed safely.
Position Summary
The Crew Lead is responsible for supervising vegetation management crews while serving as the technical expert on the job site. This position requires a balance of leadership, operational decision making, and hands-on field work.
Successful Crew Leads lead by example. They maintain high standards, develop their crews, make sound decisions in the field, and hold themselves and their team accountable for safety, production, and quality.
This is a working supervisor position. Crew Leads are expected to actively perform the work alongside their crews while providing leadership, coaching, and oversight.
Primary ResponsibilitiesLeadership
- Supervise crews of 2 to 5 employees.
- Plan daily work, optimize production, and assign responsibilities.
- Develop employees through coaching, training, and constructive feedback.
- Set expectations and hold crew members accountable.
- Build a culture of professionalism, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Communicate effectively with Operations, Safety, and customers.
Herbicide Operations
- Serve as the Qualified Applicator on assigned projects.
- Safely mix, load, transport, and apply herbicides.
- Ensure all pesticide applications comply with DPR regulations and company procedures.
- Maintain accurate pesticide use records and chemical inventory.
- Train crew members on proper application techniques and safe handling practices.
Field Operations
- Perform and supervise vegetation management activities including herbicide application, trimming, brushing, chainsaw work, mowing, and related maintenance.
- Operate and supervise the safe use of trucks, trailers, tractors, mowers, chippers, and other equipment.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and ensure proper maintenance.
- Complete required electronic documentation using company software.
Safety
- Conduct daily Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and tailboard meetings.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Investigate and report incidents, near misses, and safety concerns.
- Lead by example in the consistent use of PPE and safe work practices.
QualificationsRequired
- California Qualified Applicator License (QAL).
- Minimum three years of vegetation management experience.
- Previous experience leading crews or supervising employees.
- Strong knowledge of herbicide application and Integrated Vegetation Management practices.
- Valid California Driver License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to operate vegetation management equipment safely and efficiently.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel throughout Northern California, including overnight travel.
Preferred
- Utility vegetation management experience.
- Experience operating tractors, mowers, chippers, and other heavy equipment.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.

Pay: $28.00 - $34.00 per hour
