Sierra Executive Solutions, Inc. (SES) is a 3rd party search firm recruiting for a healthcare client company's Assistant Controller career opportunity. This positions reports to a tenured, experienced Controller who intends to retire in the next few years. The Assistant Controller role is expected to have a career path to Controller at the time of retirement/transition. This is an on-site position centrally located in Reno, Nevada and is not remote nor hybrid.
Responsibilities:
Directs the activities and team of the accounting department to include Accounts Payable, Payroll, General Ledger, Month and Year End Close, Financial Statements and Statistical Reporting, Budgeting and other duties as assigned.
- Establishes policies, procedures and programs to ensure effective accounting practices and systems
- Directs, supervises and oversees the general ledger, accounts payable, cash, payroll, and fixed assets functions of the Accounting Department - will be hands-on in this role, making journal entries and reconciling ledger accounts including accounts receivable, along with the team
- Collaborates with other members of management in financial and budgetary matters
- Assists the Controller in day-to-day Controller level responsibilities
- Ensures all accounting practices are in accordance with GAAP and with various regulatory and 3rd party agency requirements and compliance and hospital objectives
- Reviews and monitors departmental reports, bench marking, budget, FTE, volume and other reporting
- Works with physicians to interpret financial data and assists in financial planning
- Contractual Allowance and Bad Debt - maintains system, reconciles, and prepares journal vouchers
- Prepares special reporting including, but not limited to, quarterly and annual Office of Statewide Health Planning & Development (OSHPD) reporting, Center for Health Information Analysis
- Responsible for Medicaid Cost Report workpapers
- Reviews contract terms and performance
- Assists with annual financial audits, including Medicare and Medi-Cal cost report audits
- Completes the monthly and annual closing of the general ledger and prepares the financial package for presentation to Finance Committee and Board of Directors
- Prepares financial ratios
- Assists in the annual budget process for 180 departments - reviews requests against approved budgets to assure availability of funds; monitors approved expenditures; reviews and authorizes exceptions within policy limits
- Performs some internal audit functions
- Works with Revenue Cycle and department directors to ensure accuracy and timeliness of revenue
- Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field is firmly required. CPA, CMA, MBA or other higher education degree or certification is a plus.
- 5 years financial accounting experience in a clinical healthcare setting is required, hospital experience is preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of accounting staff supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience, knowledge or, or certification in EPIC software is highly desired.
Salary : $165,000 - $195,000
