A day in this role
As a Rail Systems Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician, you’ll move between benches and bays assembling electrical racks, panels, and harnesses that power high-speed rolling stock. Your morning starts by reviewing schematics, wire lists, bills of material, and work instructions. Through the day you’ll build control panels, route and terminate harnesses, verify torque and labeling, complete quality documentation, and accurately record labor time. You’ll operate hand and power tools, and at times—once certified—cranes, forklifts, and fall-protection equipment. Safety, craftsmanship, and schedule adherence are your constant guideposts. You’ll also share best practices, explaining procedures and techniques to teammates when needed.
What you will do
Pay: $22.75/hr. Actual wage may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
Training & travel
Expect extensive U.S. and international travel for extended periods during at least your first 24 months for in-person training essential to your success and to the ramp-up of the Horseheads facility. Business travel expenses are paid in accordance with company policy and guidelines.

A day in this role
As a Rail Systems Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician, you’ll move between benches and bays assembling electrical racks, panels, and harnesses that power high-speed rolling stock. Your morning starts by reviewing schematics, wire lists, bills of material, and work instructions. Through the day you’ll build control panels, route and terminate harnesses, verify torque and labeling, complete quality documentation, and accurately record labor time. What you will do
- Assemble control panels, racks, and harnesses per engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wire lists, assembly drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
- Use hand and power tools safely; obtain certifications where required (e.g., crane, forklift, fall protection).
- Complete travelers/work orders, quality records, and timekeeping with accuracy.
- Meet quality standards, workmanship criteria, and production schedules with limited supervision.
- Coach peers by explaining assembly processes and techniques.
- Follow all safety requirements and wear required PPE while helping maintain a safe, clean workspace.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic English proficiency—read work instructions and communicate effectively.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend memos and technical documentation.
- General mechanical/electrical aptitude.
- Self-motivated; works independently and collaborates well in small teams.
- Comfort with metric measurements.
- 3–5 years assembling electrical sub-assemblies for heavy vehicles or machines (trucks, military equipment, aircraft, ships, etc.).
- Frequent walking; reaching; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Regular climbing of stairs, steps, and ladders; work on elevated platforms and overhead tasks.
- Lift and move up to 40 lbs.
- Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus.
- Comfort working in non-climate-controlled areas and, when required, in inclement weather.
Pay: $22.75/hr. Actual wage may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
