What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler position at Siemens Energy?
A Snapshot of Your Day
The primary purpose of this position is to operate power lift trucks, overhead cranes, and/or push carts to transport/position various assemblies, sub-assemblies, semi-finished or finished items on pallets, skids, or boxes, individually or collectively, to various designated locations within and between departments; store supplies in area as required; and load/unload scrap into specified scrap storage disposal containers as required.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Unless otherwise stated, each employee is responsible for their own work as well as the responsibility of safety for themselves and their co-workers.
Receive work assignments, oral and/or written instructions, from supervision and move material between locations and departments.
- Operate walkie fork trucks, forklift trucks, overhead cranes and/or manually push A-frames to move within or between designated areas: materials such as bar stock, jigs, fixtures, and tools, workpieces such as various size and style turbine components and/or various assemblies, supplies such as oil, coolant, oil dry, etc. and/or trash and chip cans, and dump scrap into larger scrap containers at designated areas.
- Operate fork truck to move larger scrap containers from designated areas; visually inspect scrap for proper segregation and notify supervision of any contamination; weigh metal scrap and record weight, date, type of scrap, and initials; record all material movement on the worksheet or other records as prescribed; and verify the identification of all materials.
- Operate suction pump to pump coolant from machines into sludge tanks and manually refill machines with coolant to specified levels as required. Maintain specified amounts of oil in the oil rack and deliver oil to machines.
- Manually load/unload workpieces onto/from skids, baskets, worktables, and/or A-frames. Count work pieces as required and manually load/unload pushcart and deliver items such as furniture, hardware, tools, and smaller packaged items to designated areas.
- Operate steam jenny to steam clean machines, tools, and workpieces as required and perform routine maintenance on assigned vehicles such as oil, fuel, water, and/or recharge batteries. Notify supervision of other required vehicle maintenance.
- Assist in maintaining and keeping work area and equipment in a neat, safe, clean, and orderly condition. Notify supervision of any irregularities or equipment malfunctions and perform other related work as assigned and directed.
What You Bring (requirements)
- Active certification for operation of basic lift trucks.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Demonstrate competency of responsibilities within six weeks.
- Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
