This individual will perform medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analysis to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
Responsibilities:
- Perform venous and capillary phlebotomy according to department procedure.
- Conduct analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.
- Study blood cells, their numbers, and morphology. Perform blood group, type, and compatibility tests for transfusion purposes.
- Analyze test results and accurately enter findings into computer.
- Perform quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical data.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure.
- Verify instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and then document data.
- Record instrument logs for any repairs, replacement, and needed maintenance of equipment.
- Assist in writing policies and procedures necessary to perform tests.
- Process patient samples to prepare for testing and shipping.
- Assist in maintaining adequate inventory of supplies in all work/storage areas of Laboratory.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- Graduate from a four-year college or technical school with a Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) and/or the equivalent of a Medical Technologist.
- May be trained and certified in DOT/Non-DOT drug collections and breath alcohols.
- Prefer 1 year of related experience.
- Must have a current driver's license.
