Major Responsibilities
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teacher or school counselor certification in any content area, Grades 7-12
Note: Work-based Learning Coordinator certification/extension required prior to September 1, 2027.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Connects students to work-based learning opportunities and develops partnerships with career readiness organizations
- Assist students and advocates with the completion and submission of college and trade school applications, and assist in securing post-graduation employment for students
- Coordinates and recruits business partners for related programs and works closely with all stakeholders
- Place students in NYSED-approved Co-ops, including support in the development of resumes, interviews, searches, and follow-through
- Creates new NYSED Co-op, including development of training plans and recruitment of companies
- Support and provide oversight of students in work placements
- Facilitate regular communication with the work-based learning coordinator and district administration to provide workforce and employer information to students
- Acts as the primary liaison to nurture existing partnerships that grow education, training, and employment opportunities for students
- Remains visible to students, teachers, and parents as an advocate for higher education and success for all students
- Work in collaboration with the participating district's counseling department in delivering workshops and student career-based case management
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
- Collaborate with school counselors, teachers, administrators, and district coordinators to expand career-connected learning opportunities for students, including supporting curricular connections across content areas, career awareness activities, career exploration, and career development opportunities.
- Provide students with information about career pathways, local workforce trends, internships, and postsecondary options.
- Support the administration of career assessments and help students apply results to their planning, in collaboration with school counselors.
- Provide training and support on employability skills, career decision-making, resume writing, interviewing, and workplace readiness.
- Assist students and families with college, trade school, financial aid, and employment applications.
- Connect students to internships, job shadowing, and other WBL experiences.
- Recruit and coordinate with BOCES Career Development Center and employers to place students in aligned, high-quality opportunities.
- Provide ongoing supervision, check-ins, and site visits for students in work placements within the district as needed.
- Manage schoolwide internship communication and student placement processes.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with businesses, colleges, workforce agencies, unions, and community organizations.
- Serve as the primary liaison for career-connected learning initiatives across the district.
- Coordinate career fairs, pathway speaker panels, industry visits, and CTE middle school outreach.
- Promote a districtwide "career-connected learning culture" across middle and high school.
- Contribute to curriculum development and career awareness, exploration, and development resources and instructional materials.
- Travel within the district/ BOCES to classrooms, employers, and partner sites.
- Engage in NYSED-required training and district and BOCES professional learning.
