What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shift Lead (Bilingual - English/Spanish) position at Sidewalk Steak?
At Sidewalk Steak, we bring the high-energy, vibrant flavor of Taiwan’s legendary night markets straight to Asia Village. Serving up juicy steaks, sizzling noodles, and bold street sauces on screaming-hot cast-iron plates, our concept is fast, interactive, and full of flavor. We are looking for an outgoing, numbers-driven Shift Lead who loves people, thrives in a high-volume environment, and knows how to turn a simple order into an unforgettable experience.
The Role: What You’ll Do
As our Shift Lead, you are the conductor of the orchestra during your shift. You’ll split your time between keeping the Back of House (BOH) kitchen line moving fast and dominating the Front of House (FOH) by connecting with customers and driving revenue.
- Be the Face of the Shift: Greet guests with high energy, create an inviting night-market atmosphere, and handle customer feedback with grace and a smile.
- Drive Sales & Upsell: You aren't just an order taker—you’re a closer. You will actively guide customers through the menu, suggesting appetizers, drink pairings, and premium steak add-ons to boost ticket sizes.
- Oversee Daily Operations: Manage the floor, assign team positions, handle cash drawer reconciliations, and ensure ticket times remain under 5 minutes during heavy rushes.
- Bridge the Language Gap: Use your fluent English and Spanish to seamlessly train crew members, communicate across the kitchen line, and assist our diverse customer base.
- Enforce Quality & Safety: Ensure food safety standards (FDA) are strictly followed, the line is clean, and every single "sizzle plate" looks like a masterpiece before it leaves the pass.
Who You Are (Requirements)
- Bilingual Powerhouse: Fully fluent in both English and Spanish (required to successfully communicate with our team and community).
- Naturally Outgoing: You have a magnetic personality, enjoy strike-up conversations with strangers, and possess high emotional intelligence.
- Sales-Minded: Previous retail, hospitality, or suggestive selling experience is highly preferred. You view upselling as a way to enhance the guest experience.
- Leader by Example: You don’t just bark orders; you jump on the line, grab a prep knife, or jump on the register whenever the team needs backup.
- Experienced: At least 1–2 years of experience in a fast-casual restaurant or high-volume retail environment (Shift Lead or Supervisor experience is a massive plus).
- Flexible: Available to work variable shifts, including peak weekend rushes (Friday–Sunday) and holidays.
