***This is a remote, field-based position. The ideal candidate will work out of their home office and conduct business travel on a frequent basis.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a systems application engineer in our Industrial Robot team you will help and assist our global sales organization as a technical expert on our systems, performing feasibility studies, demos, commissioning, technical support, trainings etc. Focus is to have a close customer relation and solve our customer’s automation challenges by help of using our Robot Vision systems. With this there is also natural feedback back loop into the R&D development organization to further and continuously improve or customer offerings. 

The industry is becoming more and more automated and there are high needs for smart and intuitive vision systems that are easy to integrate and operate. We work on a global market with an ever-increasing need for vision guided robot applications. Simply put: We put eyes on robots. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide support throughout a system’s life cycle from the concept phase to the system design and fabrication, assembly, installation, and support.
  • Test customer applications to validate system functionality and performance as required by the customer.
  • Travel to customer sites to evaluate customer applications, recommending SICK solutions to solve technical problems.
  • Evaluate new technical solutions to verify functionality and provide feedback to the engineering team.
  • Support field evaluations and competitive tests.
  • Provide systems training to customers, integrators, distributors, and the sales team.
  • Provide continuous technical support for customers, integrators, distributors, and the sales team both over the phone and over email.
  • Handle difficult customer situations, upholding a positive customer image of SICK.
  • Gain knowledge to better support the customer through complex factory systems automation.
  • Work with internal resources and external installation resources to identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical support to Field Service when needed.
  • Utilize standard methodologies in capturing customer requirements and translating into relevant system definitions.
  • Carry out other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM preferred OR equivalent experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience in robotic programing and commissioning.
  • Experience in project management and customer relations. 
  • Experience in machine vision is a plus.
  • Experience in CAD modeling and design. 
  • Ability to travel 50% - 70% of the time (Domestic and International). 

Other Qualifications

  • Programming experience with Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa and/or Kuka is a plus
  • Experience in technical systems sales and/or systems marketing.
  • Programming capabilities in object-oriented language is a plus
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet applications.
  • Ability to self-start and learn on the fly.
  • Ability and willingness to work alternative schedules including weekend, and on-call hours as needed.
  • Legally permitted to work in the United States.
  • Ability to work in a general office environment.
