Experience Required: Minimum 3 years in cloud design/engineering; 7 years in cloud network technologies preferred
Certifications: Foundational cloud certification required; AWS Advanced Networking Specialty or Azure Networking Engineer preferred
Position Overview
SAIC is seeking a highly skilled Cloud Networking Engineer with strong expertise in cloud networking technologies and hands-on experience implementing and managing IPv6 in multi-cloud environments. The engineer will work with cross-functional teams to design, deploy, and maintain the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) IPv6 cloud infrastructure, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security. This role involves day-to-day cloud administration as well as developing advanced networking solutions aligned with organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure & Networking
- Design, plan, implement, and integrate cloud networking solutions across multi-cloud environments.
- Manage and administer cloud networking components including VPCs, subnets, load balancers, security groups, routing, DNS, NAT64/DNS64, and dual-stack (IPv4/IPv6) configurations.
- Perform daily cloud operations tasks, including incident and problem resolution, monitoring, and performance optimization.
- Develop, refine, and execute a comprehensive IPv6 adoption and migration strategy, including roadmap creation and execution.
- Implement advanced IPv6-focused security controls such as firewall policies, IDS/IPS systems, and DDoS mitigation.
Security & Best Practices
- Ensure cloud infrastructure adheres to organizational security standards and industry best practices.
- Identify and remediate infrastructure vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and performance bottlenecks.
- Conduct regular reviews of cloud systems and recommend improvements.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with cloud, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure seamless integration of networking solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and support to cloud team members and DOT modal partners.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders to understand requirements, provide recommendations, and ensure alignment with business goals.
Automation & IaC
- Utilize Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation to automate network provisioning and configuration.
- Contribute to CI/CD workflows and automated deployment pipelines for cloud network components.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 7 years of experience with cloud networking technologies (AWS, Azure, or GCP), with strong emphasis on IPv6 networking.
- Strong knowledge of IPv6 addressing, routing, and subnetting.
- Hands-on experience with NAT64, DNS64, and dual-stack environments.
- Solid understanding of network security principles, cloud firewalls, and intrusion prevention.
- Intermediate experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar IaC tools.
- Cloud certification required (Foundational level minimum).
- Preferred Certifications:
- AWS Advanced Networking Specialty
- Azure Networking Engineer Associate
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Strong client-facing capabilities.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical field.
- Additional cloud provider certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP) are a plus.
