What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Manager - T&I position at Sibelco?
Sibelco is a global material solutions company. We mine, process and sell industrial minerals at locations worldwide, focused primarily on silica, clays, feldspathics and olivine. We are also leaders in glass recycling. The Sibelco Group operates over 110 production sites in 31 countries, with a team of over 5,000 people.
Location: Spruce Pine, NC
1) Manage the day-to-day resources, equipment, and manpower economically to achieve the best practical throughput of testwork and ensure valid, accurate results are produced in line with the Sibelco laboratory handbook.
- Ensure adherence to the Safety standards and housekeeping 5S procedures
- Develop standard analysis methods/procedures in case of new equipment
- Ensure adequate training is provided and test procedures are maintained and adhered to coordinate calibration and servicing of instrumentation to ensure valid results and timely results
- Advise on test requirements and procedures and assess validity of results produced
- Initiate continuous improvement within the laboratory
- Ensure the effective implementation of the Sibelco laboratory handbooks
- Ensure the effectiveness of the laboratory and the meeting of requestor requirements
- Strive for excellence (i.e. balance between quality and cost)
2) Ensure the latest version of the handbook is always available to laboratory staff
3) Motivate and evaluate the team members to enhance team collaboration and support their individual development and growth.
- Liaise with HR and internal Sibelco customers to coordinate staff welfare, team working and legislative issues.
4) Set up a planning (middle and long term), by prioritizing workload and organizing resources to maintain an efficient, cost effective and organized departments.
- Instruct staff on upcoming deadlines and changing priorities
- Liaise with internal customers and technical services team to achieve workable expectations
- Create work assignments and schedule, and reviews work in progress
5) Initiate innovation and keep track of the development of new methods and procedures to continuously improve the way of working.
6) Assist and advise other departments
- Support the Operational labs in the development of new analytical methods for quality control
- Operations, when implementing new products
- Commercial, feedback on the execution of NPD and TSSR activities
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $83,000.00 - $103,000.00 per year
