Your Impact in This Role

A Quality Testing Technician is an individual responsible for testing the quality of outbound materials and communicate findings relative to material specifications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. • Assist in utilizing the SMI Quality system at SMI facility.
• Lead in ensuring that product and services meet or exceed customer specifications.
• Perform plant quality checks per SMI’s Quality Procedures.
• Update and maintain quality records on a computer.
• Perform and document in-process cullet sampling in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP).
• Conduct and document incoming and outgoing load inspections.
• Work with the maintenance personnel to ensure equipment operates efficiently to optimize product quality.
• Wear appropriate site specific personal protective equipment (PPE), as required.
• Understand and adhere to all company operating procedures and company safety policies.
• Cross-trained in other plant positions, as needed.
• Any other related duties, as assigned by their supervisor.
  
  
  

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • Quality Improvement Process knowledge.
• Core competencies in Quality Control, Testing, and Auditing, a plus.
• Able to read and understand Procedures and Test Methods.
• Capable of operating quality equipment (inspection tables, ovens etc.).
• Excellent communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
• Strong work ethic and ability to work independently, with little supervision.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills.
• Data entry experience.
• Capable of using a calculator and laboratory scales and competency with interpreting numbers.
• Basic computer operation skills (experience with Excel and Outlook).
  
  
  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Quality Control and Operations experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Glass processing knowledge preferred.
