Overview
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is key to success because they provide high-level patient care as a part of the clinical team. Under the direction of a licensed Physician, an Advanced Practice Provider provides direct patient care, including evaluating and examining new patients, managing patients who are undergoing treatment, and monitoring patients after treatment is complete.
Responsibilities
- Contributes to physician’s effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues.
- Provides information and commentary to the care team that is pertinent to clinical deliberations.
- Recommends options and courses of action.
- Implements physician directives.
- Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.
- Instructs and counsels patients by describing treatment regimens.
- Orders diagnostic tests, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results.
- Prescribes and refills medications and oncology treatments.
- Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
- Rounds on patients in the hospital.
- Performs bone marrow biopsies as trained and declared competent.
- Manages chemotherapy and immune therapy toxicities.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Participates in advanced care planning.
- General management of primary care issues related to hematology/oncology.
Required Qualifications
- Masters degree or higher in relevant field
- 1-3 years of clinical experience
- National certification as ANP, FNP, GNP or PA-C
- Currently active full unrestricted Oregon state (APRN or PA) license
- Current DEA license
- Strong technical/computer skills and EMR experience
