Senior Manager, IT Operations

Shutterfly is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Manager, IT Operations (Manufacturing Operations) to lead our manufacturing operations team within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is ultimately responsible for system reliability, manufacturing productivity and reducing down-time for hundreds of manufacturing technology endpoints all while ensuring high availability, performance, and security. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, proven leadership experience, and excellent communication skills. Service reliability engineering is the driving mindset for this team, with observability and automation as core concepts of this approach.

This leadership role demands innovation in a sophisticated ecosystem that produces hundreds of millions of physical products each year. You will drive adherence to sustained compliance, and support for a high-traffic, visible platform with substantial data volumes, third-party integrations, and performance considerations. In addition to infrastructure development, the role emphasizes Site Reliability Engineering, engaging and closely aligning with workload teams to develop infrastructure and troubleshoot application issues.

The Senior Manager of SRE leads a highly skilled operations team, fostering collaboration and innovation. Managing and mentoring this team requires inspiring and guiding engineers in complex problem-solving, offering technical leadership and support. You will be heavily engaged with your manufacturing partners and develop a deep familiarity with workflows both in the physical and digital space. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully managing highly skilled operations teams, demonstrating strong communication and leadership skills at both team and executive levels. Cultivating a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and excellence is paramount in this role.

This position will be based out of the Fort Mill, SC facility and will be onsite 5 days a week.

Responsibilities

• Support and management of hundreds of manufacturing technology endpoint systems deployed across a 200K sq ft digital print industrial plant with 24/7 operations
• Lead and manage the local Site Reliability Engineering team with a focus on manufacturing support and infrastructure.
• Work with manufacturing to understand their peak season demands each year and plan/prepare/scale up for the extremely high-volume period that starts Thanksgiving Day and ends just before the Christmas holiday.
• Partner closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to manage and execute infrastructure and manufacturing roadmaps.
• Regular KPI and metrics reporting to Manufacturing leadership.
• Work with your peers in our sister sites to drive standardization.
• Ensure system integrity and uptime.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Manufacturing, and Corporate IT to align technology with business goals.
• Manage projects from conception through implementation, including budgeting, resource allocation, and timeline management.
• Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
• Ensure robust cybersecurity practices are in place across all systems.
• Provide escalation support for complex technical issues and incidents.
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies to improve system performance and reliability.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or experience in a related field.
• 5 years of proven experience in managing and leading technical teams.
• Strong background in monitoring and observability solutions. using tools such as Grafana, Splunk, SignalFx, etc.
• Familiarity with manufacturing execution systems (MES).
• Strong technical expertise in both Windows and Linux environments including peripherals
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Highly motivated, curious, and committed to driving excellence within the team.
• Extensive experience managing and interacting with personnel across all time zones.
