Overview

The SQE Manager leads the Juárez (JZ) SQE function to ensure timely, effective supplier quality support for plant operations, incoming quality, new product introduction, and ongoing production. This role is responsible for building a highly responsive, service-oriented, and accountable team that works cross-functionally with Operations, Plant Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Planning, Purchasing, NPI, Global Product Management, Product Design & Development, Commodity Management, and Suppliers to drive consistent supplier performance, prevent material quality disruptions in production, accelerate supplier issue resolution, and support new product development efforts. The role requires visible leadership in the plant, strong technical judgment, and consistent supplier quality process execution.  The SQE manager drives alignment between SQE team priorities and plant operational needs, with clear accountability, service expectations, and measurable results. The SQE manager also provides regional quality leadership through close collaboration with other Corporate Quality and NPI teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visible, hands-on leadership for the JZ SQE organization, with active presence on the plant floor and active participation in key operational forums.
  • Establish and reinforce a proactive, ownership-driven, service-oriented culture across the supplier quality engineering team.
  • Ensure supplier quality support is proactively embedded in plant operations and the SQE team actively and collaboratively participates in production support.
  • Lead resolution of supplier-related quality issues affecting production, including containment, sort/rework coordination, escalation, root cause analysis, corrective action, and recurrence prevention through the SCAR process.
  • Drive stronger analytical rigor in investigations, especially for complex and high-value failures, and ensure the team applies appropriate RCCA quality tools with disciplined follow-through.
  • Manage supplier quality support across a broad range of supply models, including component/commodity suppliers, CEM partners, and JDM suppliers.
  • Define and implement meaningful KPIs for SQE performance, including metrics tied to plant-relevant outcomes such as response time, containment effectiveness, recurrence prevention, and supplier issue closure effectiveness.
  • Drive proactive communication cadence and visibility of team activities, decisions, risks, and open actions with plant stakeholders.
  • Partner effectively with Plant Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Warehouse, Planning, Purchasing, and Operations to improve execution speed, role clarity, and cross-functional trust.
  • Collaborate with Product Design & Development (PDD), Regional Supply Chain teams and New Product Introduction (NPI) to support plant deliverables during new product development, manufacturing and launch activities.
  • Maintain team accountability for responsiveness, collaboration, follow-through, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead organizational and process improvements that increase effectiveness, clarify responsibilities, and better align SQE support to plant needs.
  • Ensures that adequate staffing is in place to provide supplier quality services to existing production as well as to support new product introduction projects.
  • Monitors execution of appropriate processes for qualifying new suppliers, including supplier surveys, reference checks, and collecting performance data.
  • Facilitates the development of relationships with suppliers and maintains that relationship to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality parts.
  • Ensures that the Supplier Quality processes and procedures are properly documented to ensure uniformity among all divisions and plants.
  • Provides ongoing coaching and development to direct reports.
  • Performs management duties, which include hiring and terminating associates as appropriate, setting objectives, conducting performance reviews, and facilitating departmental and one-on-one meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Certification as an American Society for Quality (ASQ) Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of wide-ranging experience in quality or manufacturing functions with responsibility for results, including costs and methods.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of people leadership experience managing supplier quality or quality engineering teams in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge and practical application of mainstream Quality Tools – for example, Lean Techniques, Design and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R), Process Capability Analysis, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments, Trend Analysis, Pareto Analysis, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA), Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP), and others..
  • Capability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally to interact face-to-face with Shure’s plants, suppliers, and other internal teams.
  • Familiarity with current component measurement techniques. For example – OGP, 3D X-Ray, Calipers, and Mechanical Gauges.
  • Working knowledge of materials and part commodities. For example - injection molded plastics, zinc, aluminum, magnesium, brass, copper, coatings, die castings, metal machined and stamped parts, cables, printed circuit boards, electronic components, rubber, and packaging.
  • Experience creating, using, and managing KPIs to improve team execution and stakeholder visibility.
  • Demonstrated ability of working on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends.
  • Demonstrated experience in determining the best use of resources to meet goals and assignments received in the form of objectives.
  • Skill at process redesigns and process optimization, develop schedules, and establish performance requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead cultural change and raise standards of accountability, responsiveness, and collaboration in an existing team.
  • Strong coaching and performance management skills; able to develop people while also addressing poor behaviors and inconsistent execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and credibility with senior leaders and cross-functional management.
  • Ability to effectively champion and lead change.
