What are the responsibilities and job description for the Litigation Paralegal position at Shumaker Loop & Kendrick, LLP and Careers?
The Litigation Paralegal will work with our attorneys primarily on business and regulatory disputes but will occasionally work on real estate and corporate matters. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to managing case files, drafting legal documents and assisting with all aspects of trial preparation. The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of paralegal experience, with at least one year working on litigation matters.
Where You'll Work
The Litigation Paralegal is an hourly non-exempt position and will work hybrid at our Columbus, Ohio office.
What You'll Do
- Assist attorneys in organizing and managing case files; including maintaining document databases and electronic records.
- Draft legal documents including routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, and interrogatories; files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures.
- Research and analyzes statute, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys.
- Assist with trial preparation, including preparing trial exhibits and witness lists, and coordinating logistics for court appearances.
- Scheduling of witness interviews, inform witness of trial dates; in certain cases, the paralegal may be asked to conduct an initial interview.
- Handle occasional transactional (real estate and corporate) work, as well as environmental and regulatory work.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum of an associate’s degree is required; Paralegal Certificate from an ABA approved program preferred.
- 4 years of paralegal experience, with at least 1 year experience working on litigation matters.
- Project and case management skills including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.

Physical Requirements
- Sits frequently, six out of eight hours per day. Sitting position static for up to one-half hour at a time.
- Bends and stoops occasionally, up to one-half hour per day.
