The Facility Combined HIM Specialist performs various HIM functions and responsibilities including processing non-electric requests for information, issues with the DNFB/Provider Hold Report, and other duties as assigned. Schedule Full time (Days)
- Ensures appropriate Release of Information procedures are followed as required by SHC policies, and state/federal confidentiality regulations, including HIPAA and HITECH.
- Ensures authorizations for release of heath information are HIPAA compliant and releases patient information in accordance with minimum necessary guidelines.
- Scans and/or import requests accurately and timely for accessibility in the EMR system.
- Accurately preps, validate and scan paper medical record documents into the EMR within 48 hours of discharge or patient
- Serves as the facility liaison for DNFB/Provider Hold Report. Reports concerns or issues (as needed).
- Monitors, assists, and follows up with physicians and other hospital staff in completion of deficiencies in the medical record, compiles , verifies data and prepares reports regarding patient related statistics and distributes/posts data.
- Serves as the Physician/Provider Liaison to resolve any chart completion concerns or issues.
- Provides back up to the HIM Manager for completing monthly Closed Chart Review and/or Monthly Monitors Review (as applicable).
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Prior exposure to electronic medical record and/or document imaging systems and other healthcare computer applications.
- Associate or Bachelors in Health Information Management
- One year healthcare experience in medical records processing operation, physician office, business office and/or customer service
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) through AHIMA
- Bilingual
