Director of Music and Liturgy

POSITION SUMMARY:St. Patrick Catholic Church, Laurie, MO, the National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church and the mission parish, St Philip Benizi Church in Versailles, MO, are seeking a pastoral leader who will build, strengthen, and take to the next level our current teams to model and renew all things in the liturgy & music ministry of the parish community and the Shrine, through the planning and preparation of Divine Worship, especially the Sunday Mass. This role requires collaboration with professional staff and volunteers. It builds and equips teams of engaged volunteers to implement the Shrine and parish's mission and vision into the liturgical life.

Major Position Responsibilities and Regular Activities:Liturgical Ministries Prepare weekly liturgical items for Masses (weekday and Sunday).Coordinate liturgical seasons with Liturgy committee.Prepare Sacramental Celebrations (Funerals, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Confirmation, Baptism outside of Mass, etc.)Assist with other Liturgical celebrations (e.g. Adoration, Stations of the Cross, Corpus Christi procession)Initial and continuing formation for liturgical ministersOversight of scheduling of liturgical ministriesPreparation of Worship AidesOversees the maintenance of liturgical items

Music Ministries:Arrange musicians (cantors, choirs, accompanists) for regular liturgical celebrations including three weekend Masses during the school year [4:30 pm Saturday at St Patrick’s, 8:30 am, Sunday at St Patrick’s and 10:30 am Sunday at St Philip Benizi], Holy Days, Sacramental Celebrations, weddings, funerals, and other special events requiring music.

Summer Schedule includes outdoor Masses at the Shrine. [4:30 pm Saturday indoors St Patrick, 8 pm outdoors in the Shrine; 8:30 am, Sunday outdoors at the Shrine and 10:15 am indoors at St Patrick’s and 10:30 am Sunday at St Philip Benizi], it will be your responsibility to arrange for an accompanist to cover one of the final Masses of the summer schedule.Continue the parish's history of a strong and varied sacred music repertoire (both traditional and contemporary), introduce new music, and encourage participation of the assembly.Conduct music rehearsals during late afternoons and evenings with various choirs & ensembles.Train, direct, and supervise other accompanists and cantors, adult and children's choirs, instrumental and mixed ensembles.Oversees the maintenance of musical instruments and sound equipment. Responsible for set up at the Shrine prior to meeting with the singers before each Mass. This includes mics, music stands, folding chairs, keyboard and monitor.Initial and ongoing formation for music ministers

Administrative functions:Actively participate in parish activities including ministry team and committee meetings.Supervision of professional team members and volunteers when appropriate.All other duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Qualifications:Practicing Catholic with knowledge of Church teachings;Excellent communication, writing, and editing skills;Knowledge of Catholic liturgical theology;Knowledge of different liturgical ministries, their functions and responsibilities;Knowledge of Church music repertoire for the assembly, choirs, vocalists and instrumentalists;Proficient in piano keyboard and voice performanceWorking knowledge of basic sound equipment and micsExcellent organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:Proficient in organ keyboard / Allen church organChoral directing experienceUniversity degree in Catholic theology, music or related field and/orFour to six years of work experience in a parish or pastoral setting
